GNW Russian "Sibirski" Regiment

Just a quick post tonight as I don't have much time (its late) and also not a huge amount to say!  The only information I have found on this unit is a list of battles they fought is - as follows Narva 1700, Erastfer 1701, Hummelshof 1702, Jamburg 1703, Koporje 1703, Narva 1704, Dorpat 1704, Grodno 1706, Poltava 1709, Riga 1710, Prut 1711, as naval infantry in 1713 and Åland 1715.

And here they are:

Hope you like the latest addition to the GNW project - work has started on the penultimate Ebor Russian unit, the Preobrazhenski Guards! They will not, however, be wearing riding boots, as is suggested in the uniform info below.

  6. Great job, Keith! The Siberian regiment is valiant guys. A good addition to the army of Peter the Great. I am glad that the next regiment will be Preobrazhensky. This is the main regiment of the Russian army. The flag is special, guards, black. Semenovsky will also be?

    1. Thanks Valentin....do you know anywhere I can get an image of the flags as I have seen different versions...some black, some with what looks like a "picture" in the middle of the flag...a bit confusing! My plan is to finish off with Semenovski...also, the info I have is that the guard regiment grenadiers wore fur caps not mitres, do you agree with that? Ebor supplied me 4 extra bearskon capped grenadiers to use if painting guard units.....

    2. Hey Keith! I asked Boris Megorsky about fur hats (he is a consultant for Tactics) ... Yes, the grenadiers of the guard had fur hats until 1712. https://m.vk.com/wall-97644759_5013 I took the banners of the guard from the same Tactics. They are correct. http://www.tacitus.nu/gnw/colours/opponents.htm Yes, Keith, the color of the uniforms of the Preobrazhensky Regiment is necessarily dark green.

    3. Great thanks for the information Valentine. Tacitus is the main source of info I use so good to know it is accurate!

  8. Don't let having nothing to say stop you... certainly hasn't before. 😜
I kid, I tease. It was an obvious set up but it's equally obvious that you are KILLING it on the painting of these GNW dudes. This army is looking good and growing fast.

  14. I do, indeed, like the latest addition to your figs--and the GNW is a fantastic era! Our upcoming club game night features a GNW game, coincidentally. Fingers crossed that I'll be able to make that one!
