Blitzkrieg Reinforcements - Like I Need Any!

Ordered quite some time ago from my friend Jean-Jacques at JJG 3D in France, these arrived today in a rather disheveled looking carton that seems to have had a hard journey. Contents all appeared to have survived ok - apart from a couple of wheels snapped off the SdKfz 222, unfortunately - but this has been easily rectified with the trusty Liquid Nails I always have on standby.

Here are a few images of what has arrived to add to my lead/plastic/resin pile.....

SdKfz 11 prime mover (I think) with 1st Corps FSJ for scale.

This one I believe is the SdKfz 11 - if not, then it is the other way around - I definitely bought one 10 and one 11!

The prime movers are intended to tow the two FLAK 36 88mm guns (one still to be assembled) in my collection.

Opel Blitz truck v1

Incredible detail in the rear supports under the seats!

Kubelwagon - yes of course I have the other bits!

And this is Opel Blitz v2

Anyone know what the triangular bit on top of the cab is?? (it is folded flat in v1)

And finally, the SdKfz 222 to add to the 221 I already have.

For those interested, the trucks and armoured car set me back 13 euros each and the two half-tracks were 8 euros, which to me compares very favourably with buying and then having to assemble a Rubicon or Warlord plastic kit!

I currently have quite a back log of stuff to paint (next on the painting plan are another section of ten Fallschirmjaegers) so it may be a while till any of these see any paint - or, because they can be 50% done in one minute using a can of spray paint, perhaps they will be jumped up the queue?

Off to Julian place on Friday this week for another game of Blood Rage (the Ragnarök themed board game) so will do a quick report on that over the weekend I expect.

Thanks for dropping by!

    1. Thanks Kev - I find vehicle painting quite relaxing, in general - particularly with these WWII German ones, where I do the feldgrau basecoat with a spray can and only have to use a brush for small details and weathering etc.

  2. Impressive detail and very clean. The mesh on the 222 is superb. It’s nice to see resin vehicles that are not pre-based, some of my 1/72 sources are!

    1. Thanks Norm - the quality of the prints from JJG are second to none (in my limited experience!) They are very clean (compared with resin and/or metal vehicles of a few years ago) and crisply detailed models for an extremly reasonable price!

  3. AS Norm mentions, the detail and cleanness of the prints was the first thing that struck me. I suppose that is one of the advantages of 3D printing in that it can produce things like the under-seat supports.

    1. Thanks Lawrence and I agree - when I opened up the protective wrapping this evening to have my first look, I was struck by the same impression - they ARE detailed and with virtually nothing to be filed off - and so much easier than building a plastic kit - although, I don't mind doing those occasionally.

  4. Lots of nice new toys there Keith and 3D printing has certainly come on leaps and bounds since I left the business 4 years ago. Excellent price too for these models and so much detail and virtually no assembly required!

    1. Yes, yes, AND yes, Steve! Excitingly, our mate Mark is considering getting hold of a 3D printer, to keep him "occupied" when he retires - would be really nice having a friend who could knock a few things like this out for the cost of the raw materials....I have come across a few bloggers who are in that happy position already!

  5. Great looking models Keith. I am sure they will be fantastic once painted.

"And finally, the SdKfz 222 to add to the 221 I already have." - that is a lot of SdKfz 222's 😁

  8. They look superb and great price too. I have a selection of 3D prints sat on the painting desk and it is definitely a case that once you find a supplier that has the settings dialed in correctly then stick with them. Had a couple of ropey ones but really happy with this chap: https://www.3dprintingvalley.com

    1. Thanks Michael. Although I am very happy with JJG, I will have a look at the guy you have recommended, as he may have stuff available JJG does not. Or, maybe I shouldn't....!

  11. Very nice purchases Keith…
3d printing has definitely come a long way in the last few years…
I think it’s the quality of the materials that has made a big difference…

I look forward to seeing them all painted up…

    All the best. Aly

  13. Nice models, for sure, and certainly important bits to have when playing early war in particular, I'm thinking, given that most weapons were towed.

    1. Exactly Ed.....our group tend to "infer" tows, artillery limbers in earlier eras etc...mainly for reasons of economics I believe...that's my main reason, anyway....but having an 88 pointing backwards, progressing around the table, definitely degrades the aesthetics of the game!

  15. Excellent looking 222 and your pair of Opel Blitz's the half tracks do look a little small to me? Lovely models anyway, there has been a marked improvement in 3d printing in recent years!

    1. Hi Iain...I thought the same about the halftracks but I don't know enough about German vehicles...I am used to the SdKfz 7 that is generally paired with the 88mm gin, but I suppose other halftracks may have been smaller, based on their intended role?

  18. Nice looking resin vehicles, Keith. Good to hear of the easy fix of the broken parts. I've not tried liquid nails before - may have to give it a try someday.

  19. Nice work Keith they will look great painted up, I tend to prefer my vehicles on the larger size, but the key is having things look right together 👍

    1. Thanks Matt...I assume the two half tracks are accurate in size and scale....I thought the same about them when I saw them , they are literally half the size of Paul's Rubicon Sdkfz 7 I was using at the weekend!
