A bit of a mixed bag tonight - the first figures were finished off over the long weekend, but the majority of them have been sitting waiting to be photographed for several weeks
So - first up - 10mm EIR Romans - Auxilia infantry, to be precise
Three units in total have been completed - the last stand of the red unit were based yesterday
The blue auxilia
The red auxilia
The white auxilia
For some reason, there was an extra base, so the white auxilia got them!
Here are the first three of the 28mm 3d prints from local supplier Pot Belly Miniatures
Standard bearer
NCO
Officer
I thought they seemed "chunky", but a comparison with other 28mm plastic Russian figures indicated they are about average - L-R Pot Belly, Warlord, Plastic Soldier Company, Pot Belly, Wargames Factory and JJG 3d print of a female soldier.
Also completed over the long weekend was the second Pot Belly T34/85, seen below in both natural (garden) light and on the painting desk
Talking of natural light and the garden, here are a couple of pics of the day that greeted us on the first day of winter, 1 June - not too shabby, although relatively cool, by our sub-tropical standards
And finally - I have done the deed and ordered a small sample of 3d printed scenery from Temu! Unfortunately, although there are dozens of options, they seem to basically be almost all the same, or very similar - and 90% are DnD - so I got the ones I thought might work ok for the ruins of Berlin or other German cities - after all Gothic architecture is popular in DnD - but it also actually exists in the real world - so these ruins of cathedrals etc could be the ruin of an ACTUAL German cathedral (or a Russian one, at a push)!
I will update when they arrive - ordered yesterday, I already have a tracking number - and if they take more than 9 days to get here, I will get $5 off!
Great looking Auxilia, tons of detail for teeny tiny types! 3d prints look good, nice T34/85 too, you really could just chop up some foamboard and paint it with masonary paint for terrain Keith, save you lots of money?!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thanks, Iain - and re the terrain, yes, that possibility is on the cards as well (channeling my inner Mark, by copying his recent Ostfront terrain ideas!) - along with (possibly) some Renendra plastic kits.....
DeleteWhat I have found works well , especially if you're not offended by the scale difference is using the Tamiya 1/35 brick wall kit and combining it with foamboard and a little bit of filler to cover the join, the foamboard does most of the work but the plastic gives you the detail?

Hmmm...interesting...thanks for the tip!
DeleteThose Auxillia units look good, but I do really like the 3D printed Russians:). The T-34/85 looks very nice too, along with some nice sunshine for your first day of Winter. Here wet today and not long before the Longest Day, which always seem to suddenly be upon us!
ReplyDeleteThanks Steve - more 3D Russians soon! I think most British bloggers have been mentioning an unaccustomed run of decent weather of late, including your good self?! Your longest day is, of course, our shortest - 22 or 23 June I think?
DeleteNormally around the 21st Keith, with Mid-Summers day about 3 days later.
DeleteA mixed bag of offerings but what a nice mixed bag it is! Nice!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jon, butterfly painting as well as butterfly purchasing! 🦋
DeleteBusy time Keith and well worth it by the look of it, more lovely little Romans to add to your growing army and the Red army figures look really good as does the tank, cracking work all round.
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot, Donnie, a bit more to come shortly!
DeleteLovely miniatures stuff!
ReplyDeleteThank you Michal....glad you liked the pics!
DeleteGreat work all round Keith. The shade of green on the T34 really comes to life in the natural light.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lawrence. Maybe I should use natural light more often....although it's the wrong time of year to make that change, probably!
DeleteI really like the look of those Romans, great figures to paint up
ReplyDeleteThanks Scotty....they certainly are!
DeleteLovely weather here…and lovely minis there. Really digging those 10mm lads. You must have quite a few by now.
ReplyDeleteThanks JBM....I like the 10mm Romans too, and I do have a decent number in the collection now!
DeleteGreat looking Romans Keith.
ReplyDeleteThe Russian figures all seem to match well and look great together.
I hope the Temu purchase works out. Does Temu add GST/VAT to the purchase price? Aliexpress does for Australia.
Thanks Ben! As to GST, it says on their website that it is included, so no issues with NZ Customs.
DeleteLots of productivity Keith I do like the Romans 👍
ReplyDeleteThanks Matt - the 10mm Romans do seem to be a crowd favourite!
DeleteOutstanding units. They look amazing Keith.
ReplyDeleteCheers Richard
Deleteoutstanding work there Keith. They all look the business. 😁
ReplyDeleteThank you Stew!
DeleteYou have certainly been busy Keith…
ReplyDeleteI do love the little Romans…. If anything was going to tempt me into the 3d printed world it would be these…
All the best. Aly
Thanks Aly...busy, but in a good way!
DeleteYes the Cromarty Forge figures are really very good!
Some great looking figures Keith. The Pot Belly figures look great They fit in very well with the other figures.
ReplyDeleteCheers Ray - I like them too! Probably be getting a few more in the not-too-distant future!
DeleteLove those 10mm Romans. So many players I know are starting 10mm - large units, lots of them. They look spectacular en masse!
ReplyDeleteThanks John - yes, the 10mm stuff has a real attraction for that reason - I can imagine collecting horse and musket armies in that scale too, although I probably won't, given I have so many 28mm collections already.....
DeleteWonderful painting of a marvellous variety of figures for an above average vegemite sanger post Keith.
ReplyDeleteI saw 'black unit' for your Roman white auxilia as the black undercoat dominated for me! :)
Best wishes, James
Yes, I know what you mean, James, the undercoat does dominate the shields, and they are about 50% of the colour of the figures!
