Inspired by mate Mark at "1866 and all That", I have made may own modest attempts at some Russian village buildings. They are not up to Marks standards, but I still think they are reasonably good and will certainly "do" me for any Ostfront 28mm solo games.
The village from above - church is a Perry plastic kit!
House with a water pump to the left, large barn to the right
The other two house and the standalone water pump
In no particular order - this is house number 1
I copied the water pump unashamedly from Marks blog - but I made the first one a bit "chunky" - this second attempt, in the back yard of the house, was better, I think.
House number two has a small crop of unidentified root vegetables out back - potatoes, perhaps?
House three was my first attempt I think - it is the smallest of the buildings
The standalone water pump with figure for scale - as I say, a bit over sized perhaps - but I will still use it probably!
A large barn - I realised it's not quite finished off - I need to "tone down" the black iron hinges on the large double doors (above)
The Perry church is, of course, intended for N America - but I think I can get away with it on the Ukranian steppe (just about!)
And here is a quick preview of what I am working on currently, between painting Red Army tanks
I should probably have 20-30 of these for a proper BUA scenario a la Stalingrad or the Battle of Berlin - but not sure I will do that many - storage being a major concern if I could actually be bothered to create that many ruins!
Super work there Keith, your buildings have turned out really well and look great on the table, you must be well chuffed with them. Must be tatties growing in the back garden, plenty of them for the vodka production!
ReplyDeleteGreat looking buildings there Keith. Spot on for the period and theatre. Hope you got planning permission!
ReplyDeleteMore than serviceable job on the buildings! They'll do well on the table.
ReplyDeleteExcellent work on the buildings, perfect for Ostfront
ReplyDeleteGreat looking buildings, Keith. I've been to his site in the past when working on my FPW and RJW projects. Great info. I like the ruined buildings with multiple floor remnants - great for placing figures for skirmksh games.
ReplyDeleteGreat looking buildings Keith and I really like the vibe you have achieved with these:)! As for BUAs for Stalingrad etc, always tricky to get a mix of enough to get that look, against where the hell can you store them all? I think for my games I will have more of the open areas at the edge of the aforementioned city, to get a good combination of look, storage and playability.
ReplyDeleteOutstanding work Keith. They look amazing. The church looks fine to me. I guess you could stick an onion on the spire if the notion took you.
ReplyDeleteLuvvly buildings Keith! I do like the rough and rustic look on the roofs.
