The Rules - as per Andrews pregame email - bearing in mind, we should all know the basics of his mechanisms already...
* card based activation
* 2D6 rolls needing 9+* sequence:
Rally/Search
Shooting/Magic
Movement
Close Combat
Each player will have 12 points to choose from -
Fighter or Wizard (+3) - 3 pts
Cleric* or Thief** (+2) - 2 pts
Henchman/Minion (+1) - 1 pt
*(+3 vs undead)
**(+3 Search)
That's all you need to know for now!
Now, THAT is what I call a simple set of rules - Purrfec!
The layout of the "dungeon" or whatever. Small silver/grey cubes are areas the players can search
I picked a band of four magic users - few in number but effective in action!
My "stats" such as they are!
In the activation deck, each player was a different suit - I was Hearts, for example. The deck was set so that there were "turns" of one activation each player, then a face card, which allowed GM Andrew to role to bring on a monster.
The first monster came on - it had to manifest itself at a point nearest to the group corresponding with the suit of the face card - so, this was a Club, and Johns group of dwarves was activating on a Club - so that where the monster appeared!
A spawn point
John's dwarves, supplied by Andrew
Chris was using a band of figures from my collection
Julian supplied his own warband - note, he explained several times, he has not decided how to finish off the bases - hence, they are - well - unfinished!
The usual excellent terrain was supplied by Andrew
My warband and Julians collided as we both approached the central feature where there were four potential areas to search. Twice, a Spade face card was turned over and the nearest spawn point to Julian was right next to ME - GRRR.
Meanwhile, the dwarves were being assailed by a bunch of zombies!
In all the confusion, two of my figures used their magic powers to "teleport" ahead of Julian and get to the treasure house first!
My group had become a bit separated - the sorceress in red is carrying max points before suffering a "knock down " (none of our figures could actually die, but if they reached max hits, they had to be revived by another member of their team) - hence the reason I retired this character out of harm's way till she could rally off some of the hits!
Meanwhile, Chris was quietly moving along the edge of the table, accumulating "victory points" by searching and also by killing the odd monster that confronted him!
Situation at the halfway point - we stopped for dinner
Chicken to the left, beef to the right
Refreshed, we returned to the action - another monster generated by Julians Spades appeared right next to my Apprentice. She dispatched it with ease and claimed some additional VP for her trouble!
Chris, with significantly more VP accumulated than anyone else, in position to leave the table (we had to exit by a different gate from the one we entered by)
The centre of the table showing the relative positions of my band and Julians.
Julians band has taken quite a battering!
Time for us to go ladies!
With only a turn or two left and Chris already off the board, my band once again used their magic powers to teleport away from Julian and Johns approaching warbands and left the gaming area by the same exit Chris had used.
All of Julians and half of Johns band were left in the centre of the table with the clock rapidly ticking down (you can see my band about to escape in the top right of the image above)
A Necromancer appeared next to the other part of Johns warband - and one of his team is down!
Another monster popped up adjacent to the exit point the dwarves were attempting to use.
Julians band was stuck in the middle of the table, laden with treasure - but unable to reach any of the exits!
Half the dwarves had to be abandoned too
These three made it out, with a few VP between them.
The scariest monster of all - a toy squirrel that Julain's two cats play with!
Chris won with 18 VP accumulated, I had 11 I think - Julian may have had more than Chris but failed to get off the table to reap the rewards, and only half of the dwarven band escaped with a few coins for their efforts!
Great fun and something a bit different - Mark and Rick would have hated it LOL!
In my previous posts comments, Mark (JBM) asked about the markers I used for hits - so I went and found some from the same source - these are painted Foundry WW1 casualties - I just print these images (or other similar ones) off in batches and mount them on thin card
Finally, I have just started this tome - 892 pages, so it's going to take me a while to get through, I imagine!
Cheers for now - time to go out for a Saturday morning coffee with my dear wife!
A fun easy to pick up game by the looks of it for an evening’s entertainment.
ReplyDeleteThanks Peter - exactly that - and exactly what you need after a long working week!
DeleteLooks like a good fun game Keith, lovely miniatures on the table too and must admit those pies looked rather good!
ReplyDeleteThanks Donnie, lots of laughs last night for sure and glad you like the miniatures!
DeleteA fun game Keith. I wondered about your choice of a all wizard band but it worked out well.
ReplyDeleteThe dwarfs certainly look grumpy at the end. 😂
Thanks Ben....it felt a bit dodgy but having four +3 figures was a bit like having 4 King Tigers!
DeleteThe dwarves had quite a bit to be grumpy about!!
Haha! Show poster is great!
ReplyDeleteLove to see some pure fantasy clash!
