No, I won't be doing that from now on! 😉
Its Father's Day here in good ol' Aotearoa/New Zealand and I have had a pretty good day (well, weekend really). Although our son is down in Queenstown, he managed to take a break from the endless partying to send me wishes for the day and our lovely daughter popped around mid-morning with some home baked scones to share, along with two large bars of Cadbury chocolate!
I have had quite a productive time recently at the painting desk but have not been posting as regularly as normal because I didn't want to bugger things up with my 1000 Posts "Special"!
This has been my focus for the last couple of weeks - assembling and painting the 40 Warlord Hard Plastic Russian Infantry I got from my son for my birthday
I found them quite easy to put together, thanks in no small part to the very clear parts and assembly "instructions"
The above saved my common dilemma of removing arms from the sprue to fit to a figure, only to find they don't quite work the way I imagined they would, and I have to use a different set instead!
I have grouped the results into five sets of eight figures, as they come on the sprues
As you will see, with all the parts supplied, it's pretty easy to create forty individual figures from the pack.
And now a few individuals - don't worry, I didn't take a picture of all forty of them!
"Sniper in the second window from the left!"
Soviet AT Rifle - unlike most armies, the Russians used them right up to 1945
The iconic "Molotov Cocktail", named after the Soviet Minister of Foreign Affairs
A middle-aged officer
LMG gunner
Two-man sniper team
The obligatory female troops - I just added a Statuesque head to the great coated body
The officer's head is from Victoria Miniatures
And the standard bearer is another Statuesque head
And that's me all caught up. Now, given I have nearly 60 comments on my last post, we all know it's possible - so I wonder how many comments I will get here?!
Sounds like some nice treats there for Father's Day Keith:)! Lovely work on these Winter Soviet troops, with some nice details on the figures. The latest Warlord offering has a chap with a stolen chicken in one hand! Good to see you've included some female troops too, which is what we've come to love and expect:).
ReplyDeleteThanks Steve! Next time, it might be the new Soviet sculpts - who knows?! I obviously had to put a couple of girls into the mix!
DeleteBy way of justification, I present the following, courtesy of AI!
"During World War II, the Soviet Union was unique among the Allied powers for training and deploying women in combat roles, including as snipers, fighter pilots, and anti-aircraft gunners, alongside their non-combat roles as nurses and medics. Over 800,000 to one million women served in the Red Army, with notable units like the "Night Witches" (the all-female 46th Guards Night Bomber Regiment) gaining fame. Famous female soldiers include sniper Lyudmila Pavlichenko and pilot Mariya Dolina, with 89 women ultimately receiving the Heroine of the Soviet Union title"
No justification needed at all Keith! The 'Night Witches' and snipers are well known, but I can't remember if they had female tank crews or not. I believe they did...
DeleteThere were certainly some individual female tankers Steve, although I don't know if they had all female crews. If you Google Fighting Girlfriend, you should find the story of at least one example 😉
DeleteHappy Father’s Day! Your latest batch of Soviets are superb. Many look very cold!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jon - I think they turned out nicely and I am happy with the snow effect bases, too!
DeleteThose Soviets turned out well
ReplyDeleteCheers Scotty - I think so too!
DeleteWell done, a good birthday and modeling report. Your soviet horde grows, do you have enough to protect your tanks yet?
ReplyDeleteThanks Joe - not sure if this is enough infantry to support the tanks - I might need a few more - what do you reckon?
DeleteHome made scones and Cadburys chocolate is hard to beat Keith! Nice work on the Soviets, good job on them, look forward to seeing them make their debut.
ReplyDeleteThanks Donnie - I had planned scenario three for the Red October tank factory tonight - but went to a neighbour's place for a drink around 430 and got caught up in some nice Otago Pinot so only got home about 9pm - might try to get the game done tomorrow!
DeleteHappy Father’s Day Keith. That warlord box looks like it was good value for money!
ReplyDeleteCheers JBM - it surely was!
DeleteGreat looking troops Keith.
ReplyDeleteHappy Fathers day. I got new slippers, a t-shirt and a bottle of wine plus lunch with all the kids.
Sounds like a reasonable return on investment, Ben!
DeleteThey came out beautifully Keith. I am a big fan of their stuff although they can be a bit pricier than others. I very professional company.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lawrence! I am on record as not being a fan of their marketing policy of obliterating the opposition and making historical wargaming and Warlord synonymous - but that doesn't mean their figures are bad - quite the opposite, in fact! I don't find them particularly expensive, compared with other manufacturers...
DeleteSoviets look great, Keith.
ReplyDeleteThanks Richard, they are very nice figures, which certainly helps!
DeleteHappy father's day sir!
ReplyDeleteAlways love to see your soviet soldiers!
Thank you Michal!
DeleteGreat looking Soviets in winter gear, Keith! And Happy Fathers Day!
ReplyDeleteThanks and thanks, Dean....I am very happy with how the Russians turned out!
DeleteHappy Father's Day - the Soviets look great!
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot Bill!
