So, on reviewing my pics from our trip, I find I have around 200 - sheez!
I won't inflict them all on you and even an edited version would be a bit much, so I will drip feed them over a few posts.
To start tonight though, I have a recent arrival from Temu with some more good stuff, here it is!
The four items
From the same range as the machine tools - a set of water pipe connections - probably destined for addition to the factory terrain
A set of 120 tufts on the left, next to some "Western" ones that cost about 5 times as much for fewer items!
I thought the Temu ones were small but its mostly an optical illusion caused by the packaging
The best bit - my first proper bridge - 3d printed with three options for around NZ$15!
Option 1 above - small intact bridge
Option 2 - large intact bridge
With 28mm figures and vehicle for scale
Option 3 - damaged bridge!
The fourth item was another set of the plastic railway tracks - I now have an extra 4 straights and 10 not really required curves - but for $8 I am ok with the deal.
The first of my holiday snaps below
We picked up the hire car around 845am on Friday and headed straight off to Lake Tekapo about 2.5 hours' drive to the southwest of Christchurch
Stopped en route for a couple of scenic views
Tekapo is famous for this iconic, historic church - "Situated on the shores of Lake Takapō amongst the natural beauty of the lake and the mountains, the Church of the Good Shepherd was built to the glory of God and as a memorial to the pioneers of the Mackenzie Country."
A couple of views of Lake Tekapo from the shore below the church and looking at the Southern Alps in the distance
A statue of a working dog - as per below
Halfway back to Christchurch we stopped at this viewing point
Back in Christchurch, it was a simple matter (thanks to GPS!) to find our Air BnB in Salisbury Street. A very modern, one up one down apartment about five minutes' walk from the city centre but a very quiet, one-way street with no issue getting free parking within a few yards of the front door - and all for the princely sum of NZ$135 per night - even I can't moan about that!
It's in the middle of this image around the red or silver car
The downstairs from both angles above and below
Upstairs bedroom above and view out the rear window below
First meal was dinner with an Italian flavour (no pun intended!)
View from my seat out of the window
The restaurant is the one on the corner under the green awning
A few images on our walk back to the air B n B - Captain Cook above
An art gallery (I think)!
Thanks for stopping by and I hope you found something of interest in my ramblings!

Nice work on the photos of the area. The bridges were very good for the price. Now to paint, eh?
ReplyDeleteThanks Joe...and yes, that's correct....I need to buck my ideas up as I have even stared painting the 3d church I got a few weeks back yet!
DeleteTufts from Temu? Now that is interesting. I like the bridges too. Your NZTB will be proud of your work while on holiday!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jon, they have LOTS of tuft options, well worth a look.
DeleteLots more NZTB still to come!
The pasta looks overcooked to me...
DeletePossibly....but it was a very nice sauce!!
DeleteSauce is important!
DeleteIt sure is...nice big limps of salty prosciutto and mushrooms!
DeleteReally interesting stuff sir.
ReplyDeleteBridge and stuffs looking great👌
Thanks Michal, I think the bridge will come in very handy for games.
DeleteNice terrain additions. The bridge options are handy.
ReplyDeleteThanks Richard, I think the various iterations of the bridge will get a lot of use.
DeleteThe pipework and the bridge all look really good and very handy pieces too, I like the way the bridge can change from intact to damaged. More lovely holiday snaps, the church is very interesting with my great granny being a Mackenzie, I am not religious but really am a sucker for ecclesiastical architecture!
ReplyDeleteThanks Donnie, I think the bridge will be particularly useful!
DeleteThe church at Tekapo looks very Caledonian to my eye, which is common in that part of the country given the large numbers of Scots who emigrated to that area.
I am becoming a big fan of Temu for all the bits and pieces you can pick up, and with free freight. All these Chinese government subsidies designed to destroy Western manufacturing really are a boon to us wargamers. I purchased some more dice trays last week and they were here within days. I am a big fan of the South Island. My daughter and her family are there at the moment and loving it.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lawrence....I agree that the economics of Temu etc don't make sense to we money hungry capitalists....but I am perfectly happy to take advantage of it!
DeleteI really like the S Island too, Christchurch is soooo quiet compared with Auckland or Wellington and the scenery is pretty impressive as well!
Lovely scenery as usual, and a nice set of prezzies when you got home. Those TEMU pipes look interesting!
ReplyDeleteCheers JBM, glad you enjoyed both aspects of the post!
DeleteLovely pics...tasty looking dinners...and I have the same bridge from Temu..2 in fact!!
ReplyDeleteCheers John, yes we did rather well on the culinary front! The bridge is a nice model but I think one will probably be enough for me!
DeleteGreat set of purchases Keith.
ReplyDeleteLovely photos of the country side and some great and affordable accommodation.
Thanks a lot Ben - the accommodation in CHC was VERY reasonable - and I am a tight arsd Scot!
DeleteNice Timu bits Keith. Did you stay at Tekapo? I always wanted to do the dark sky experience there, but every time I've been there it has been overcast.
ReplyDeleteThanks Mark - no, we just did the obligatory hundred picks of the church, had a short wander about, then headed back again. Wesaw the signage for the dark night experience and the observatory but that was it.
DeleteCool photos Keith, I do like that bridge, I bought those tufts as well, they are pretty small aren't they?
ReplyDeleteThanks Ray - the bridge should be a good addition. I thought the tufts were more or less equivalent to the ones I have - but I generally go with 4mm tufts anyway
DeleteSeemed like an interesting trip.
ReplyDeleteThanks Rob, it was a nice break away.
DeleteNice hauls from Temu. and some nice photos. The stone church is kinda cool. 😁
ReplyDeleteThanks Stew, I was happy with both the recent purchases and our four days away!
DeleteGreat kit you've got,I like the pipes and the bridge is ace, nice tourist board photos too!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Cheers Iain - I see today that bridge is about $NZ13 (six quid maybe) because its Black Friday!
DeleteNice additions from Teemu and as always hard not to like the photos of the stunning NZ terrain:)!
