After finishing up the second regiment of GNW Russians (yet to be posted here) and waiting for the black undercoat to dry on the first batch of the THIRD regiment, I pulled this out of my storage drawer and put it together, I can't remember how long I have had it, quite a few months for sure but less than a year I think - anyway, its done now and just needs to be painted.
A very nice, highly detailed kit but with only a relatively small number of parts - I do find the Zvezda 1/72 models are all like this! The previous one I did was a ZIS Russian 76mm gun and it too was simple to put together. The premade base with the exact positions to fit the crew into is also a great bonus. I started painting the crewmen this evening (along with the first half dozen GNW figures) so a completed model should appear here in the not-too-distant future.
Neat looking model. Does Zvezda make this gun in 1/100 (15mm) too?
ReplyDeleteHi Jon....I am unsure, sorry. The range seems quite eclectic....some models are 1/100 and others are 1/72.....I am not sure I have seen the same model in both scales....I remember when looking for a 1/72 T26 tank, I kept getting excited by finding Zvezda made one.....only to realise, it was only in 1/100!
DeleteGreat job, I have the kit in the stash … so thanks for the tip re the gun shield :-)
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome Norm! Perhaps most others would realise for themselves....but I tend to get the bit between my teeth when assembling kits and charge on with little time spent on consideration of this type of thing! Apparently, SOME people do a dry run assembly, before they stat glueing....??!
DeleteThe model looks really good.
ReplyDeleteThanks Mark, I like it too!
DeleteVery nice looking stuff!
ReplyDeleteThank you Michal, Zveda do some very nice kits!
DeleteA nice looking kit. The Zvezda stuff is normally a breeze to put together
ReplyDeleteYes, normally Scotty, if you engage brain before commencing assembly.....!
DeleteThat is a lovely model, and nicely put together Keith. That would be more than enough parts for me.
ReplyDeleteCheers Lawrence...yes there were one or two unnecessarily fiddly little bits that could have just been molded to the main kit, from my wargamers perspective but overall, it wasn't too bad!
DeleteInteresting! I am pleasantly surprised that you are simultaneously running several projects.
ReplyDeleteThanks Valentine...it is a common theme on wargamers blogs...the fluttering of butterflies wings as we go from one interest to another....and then a third or fourth one!
DeleteAnd I thought my butterfly was uncontrollable. Lol. Nice kit. I seem to remember Zvezda made some of these kits to go with a board game or some such. Mmm. Maybe I’m getting mixed up with something else.
ReplyDeleteNo, you are spot on JBM....Art of Tactics I think it is called! There is a gaping hole visible in the base in a coupe of my pics that is intended to receive a "flag" that is part of the kit (and presumably, the game) I will fill it when doing my basing!
DeleteThat's a lovely model and you really can't fault the Zvezda stuff, as it fits together like a hand in a glove:). I've never had a problem assembling stuff, mainly due to my working life in the design and protoyping industry, so it all became second nature trying to figure out how to put stuff together etc.
ReplyDeleteThanks Steve - in theory of course, Zvezda is all snap fit and no glue is required, but I think you might have some issues if you tried to pursue that option - a couple of the smaller parts I had issues with even using glue! I drilled out a few holes just to make the fit easier too.
DeleteI am sure 50% of people would not have any issues with the kit but I seem to have one or two small things go wrong most times I assemble one - unless it is something really straight forward like Armourfast or PSC withe their 8-12 parts!
Good looking model Keith. Dry assembly... I wonder if wargamers often have that level of patience. We want to get them play ready asap.
ReplyDeleteThanks Richard...I certainly don't have the patience to do it!
DeleteHi Kieth- A very nice Kit of the German 88mm - seems a pleasure to put this Kit together. Very interested in seeing your WW2 20mm Collection - I previously didn't know you had WW2. Stay well there in NZ. Regards. KEV.
ReplyDeleteThank you Kev....one for you to consider adding to your own rapidly expanding WWII collection? Maybe I will do a quick parade for you?
DeleteThanks Kieth- I'd definitely like to see your Collection of WW2 items...Cheers. KEV.
DeleteSure, no problem, Kev - not this post but soon..ish!
DeleteA nice looking model Keith…
ReplyDeleteI am not a fan of sticking kits together and what always makes it worse is unclear instructions… it’s not hard to put numbers on things.
If possible kits should be as close to ‘build as numbered’ as possible.
I feel a rant coming on so I will shut up 😂
I’m looking forward to seeing it painted.
All the best. Aly
To be fair to Zvezda, Aly, the instructions are pretty good....I just don't spend any time thinking before I attach parts to the kit....so please, don't rant!
DeleteVery nice 88, Keith! Zvezda makes excellent 1/72nd kits and figures. I used to have a few 1/72nd Ancients armies, but sold them to someone from NZ - if you can believe it. This was many years ago and at the time the individual was living and working in Japan. He had (still has?) a huge collection of 1/72nd figures.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dean...I may have come across that guy via his blog! Not sure who, but I do recall one of the blogs I follow mentioning he used to work in Japan......
Delete88s do have a nice look about them. 😀
ReplyDeleteYes, unless you are on the receiving end of one of their super sonic shells Stew!
DeleteThat's a great looking model, Keith.
