Just a few pics of a boardgame Julian, John and I played on Friday - Bloodrage.
We have played before, it's based on Norse mythology, about which I know nothing, and is the "End Times" of three ages leading up to Ragnarök - or something like that!
The board
Various warbands
Needless to say, I had the Serpents band - all female warriors below!
A couple of "Gods" who were in occupation of two of the provinces
Some of the monsters that may or may not come into play
Julian activated a Troll - in this combat, my leader, backed up by the fleet, defeated the hideous creature!
Julian also activated this Fire Giant who was a bit of a handful to be honest - when he "invaded" a province, he automatically sent all figures already there straight off to Valhalla!
In this instance, a lone female warrior managed to defeat him, though!
The end of the game - counters around the edge keep track of "glory" points gained by winning battles, achieving quests etc - Julian blue in the bottom left won - I was yellow on 75, John was somewhere further back - he really didn't like the game much!
Off to a "proper" wargame at Barrys on Sunday, Back of Beyond using Andrews rules and various different factions - should be fun!
That looks like a colourful and fun game Keith. Looks like a bit of work has gone into painting the figures.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lawrence - its fine once and a while; I prefer this one to Zombicide I think, although John can't get his head around it - there ARE a LOT of options when deciding what cards to keep in your hand etc.
DeleteThe figures are a great advert for speed paints - that's what Julian now uses and the improvement in the look of his figures is fantastic- as you can see by the faces etc for a start!
I await the report from the proper wargame…
ReplyDeleteIt should not be too long a wait Jon!
DeleteLooks a fun game
ReplyDeleteJulian and I enjoyed it, Scotty!
DeleteThe painted figures would add to the gaming experience.
ReplyDeleteThey certainly do from my perspective, Peter - plain grey plastic figures would be half the fun in my opinion!
DeleteBlood Rage...... a version of Monopoly perhaps ??? 😂
ReplyDeleteJulian did a great job on the figures.
Funny you say that, Ben....I was going to say to Perer above, without painted figures, it would just be another board game, like Monopoly!
DeleteThe figures are nicely done. Fascinating idea for a game. .
ReplyDeleteThanks Joe it's a bit of fun with something a little bit different
DeleteDon't really do boardgames but this one looks pretty decent, some great figures and they do look so much better painted up, lovely job on them.
ReplyDeleteCheers Donnie - I am the same, really - Julian likes them and has a fair few available, so I am happy to play now and then - something a bit different and easy to set up and get playing compared with a "real" wargame!
DeleteThe figures are great and soooo much better, painted up!
I know the game and it's full of fun!
ReplyDeleteLots of laughs on Friday, that's for sure Michal!
DeleteNot my sort of thing these days, but one can't but help admire the wonderful sculpting of the figures:).
ReplyDeleteI feel somewhat the same Steve, although happy enough to play this sort of thing now and again!
DeleteSounds like a great fun game and looks pretty good too! Proper wargame Sounds right for a Sunday!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thanks Iain - it's a good game as far as boardgames go and definitely enhanced by the nice figures! "Proper" wargame duly fought today - AAR to follow shortly!
DeleteSuper looking game.
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot, Richard - its ok for a change now and again - and very nice figures, which helps!
DeleteHi Keith, This looks like something a little out of the ordinary but it does look like it could be fun. It's given me an idea to possibly spark interest with someone - my girlfriend is not a board game player generally, but likes Viking history...I'm just wondering whether this might be a good lead into more games for her. An interesting idea! Best wishes, Jason
ReplyDeleteNice bit of scheming there Jason - get your girlfriend interested in games with toy soldiers and hey, presto, in three years, she will be painting a Napoleonic Russian army to take on your French!
DeleteLooks like a fun little diversion Keith…
ReplyDeleteThe figures are lovely…
All the best. Aly
Thanks Aly - yes, very nice figures in this type of boardgame nowadays!
