Another Terrain Update

I had meant to get a solo game in over the last few days but every time I thought about it, I thought I wanted to use the new 28mm ruined buildings, and then I thought they are not all finished yet, so instead of a game, I carried on the slow process of titivating them!

They are almost done now, but need some work on the recently added bases, so once again, not quite ready for a game (which I did actually set up around 7pm but then our son arrived home from a hunting trip and I felt obliged to stop and chat with him for a bit, then he was hauling dirty clothes etc through the garage where I was intending to play, and by the time he was all done, the moment had passed and I just took some photos of all the buildings and packed everything away again!)

So, here are some pics!

This was the game I was going to play - Soviet advance out of the tank factory and into the ruins of Stalingrad!

And following are the 8 ruined buildings from various angles - 3 x 3 story and 5 x 4 story.

I am quite pleased with how they have turned out but of course, I still want more! After all, these look fine on my small solo table, but they would hardly look like much of a "city" in Barrys 18' x 6' table! I am thinking I might get another set of the 3 x 3 plus a set of 5 x 2 story ruins. I also used one of the 4 story mdf as a template and traced it onto a 300mm x 300mm cork tile, so that's another possible option....watch this space!

I will try to get a game in over the next few days, it is long overdue. In the meantime, thanks for checking out my latest post!

  4. This shows a lot of devastation. Why are the backsides of all buildings blown out and never the street facing facades?

    1. To be fair to the designers, only 2 or 3 of the 8 buildings have a ground level door, so the rest could easily be a side or back wall, Jon.They are only orientated the way they are because I put them that way.

  5. Good solution to the taking of building by building that the grind of city fighting demands.

  6. The ruined buildings look great and for a Stalingrad game you will always need more

  8. Yeah I reckon you could knock out a gazillion of these using cork tiles. Worth a go isn’t it?

  10. That looks great Keith. Not sure how many you would need to fill Barry's table but you would be building them for a long time! Maybe concentrate on building scatter terrain instead?

I think the small size will be fun to play on and provide lots of interesting action.

    1. Yes, it would take a few years and a lot of $$ to fill Barry's table with these,Ben!

  12. Sahme you couldn't get the planned game in there Keith (been there and got the badge!), but at least you were able to share some nice photos of the terrain already to go:). They should look even better with a bit of rubble added to them and maybe the odd Soviet poster on the walls too. Have you ever considered using the cork tiles as the bases for the buildings, to give a sort of rough cobbled street effect?

    1. It happens Steve, and "forcing " oneself to have a game just so you have something to post about is not a good idea!
I realised when looking at the tank factory that I had already solved the basing question....Printed off paper of rubble...but of course, I forgot that during construction, as I should have added the rubble to the bases BEFORE I stuck the buildings to them...duh!

  13. Looking good Keith…
Some building sized bases with just piles of rubble on them would probably be a good way of expanding the ruins a bit…( you could always define them as difficult or impossible to cross )…and would be a lot easier to store.

    All the best. Aly

    1. Thanks Aly, I do have a few smaller rubble piles but will have a think about how I can use your suggestion

Buildings do look good. I also thin the table would benefit from some rubble piles, like heaps of bricks and junk. Would add to the look, no?

    1. Haha, I didn't really mind that much Stew! Yes agree re rubble and junk (see above) I also just ordered a couple of packs of mdf rubble and "bits" from a local supplier to add some more detail to my collection of ruins.

  15. Great looking ruins, always room for more, I'm thinking of doing some low rise ruins with the Tamiya brick walls and foamboard, oh and a fella at the club says he's got a scenario for Pavlovs house, oh dear!

    1. Thanks Iain, it's like a disease, isn't it?! I am still tempted to get the mdf Pavlovs House model...for $62 (about £25) it's not prohibitively expensive, even by my mean standards!
