AWI Unit # 3 - 12th Mass Continental Regiment 1776

Well, they could be - they could be any of a number of other regiments wearing brown coats with red facings, too!

I quite like this colour combination

They really are very nice figures!

I don't recall what the flag is either - I am channelling my inner Ridley Scott with some of these units!

That's the lot for tonight - a couple more still to come, and I have started work on Perry plastic French Chasseurs a Cheval - so they will make an appearance in due course, too.

  1. Like waiting for a bus Keith, as two come along at once (or nearly)! Lovely figures as you say and I do like the brown and red combo, which just seems to work a treat. If anyone queries your flag choice, simply ask them: "were you there?" 😉!

    1. Cheers Steve - and that is exactly the Ridley vibe I was aiming for!

    2. Good one, Steve! Flag is unfamiliar to me but I wasn’t there.

  2. Smashing stuff, I too like the brown and red. I already have 15mm AWI but I’m finding myself circling the Perry’s web site a lot, you know just dipping in now and then for a quick peek at the 28’s. Not that I’m going to buy any, of course, ((coughs)) but if I did for some reason, would that count as going down another rabbit hole if I’ve already “done the period” in a different scale?

    1. I see no problem with your potential "rabbit hole" JBM - mind you, I have WWII collections in 15, 20 AND 28mm now, so "he would say that, wouldn't he?"!

    2. Having multiple scales of figures in the same period offers many possibilities to explore different aspects of battle. There! That is my story and I am sticking to it.

  3. A great looking unit, Keith, I love the brown coated AWI regts. All those nice colour combo's. Nice flag too, I don't recognise that one.

    1. Thanks Ray - it's a nice-looking uniform, isn't it?

  4. I think that is an unfair comparison with Ridley Scott as yours seem to have some historical basis to me, although to be fair the uniforms was the only good part of Napoleon. It is very rare I have let out involuntary audible gasps in a movie, even of the horror genre, but that movie did it for me. Great work on these Keith, and the Perry plastics paint up well.

    1. Haha...yes, I knew the allusion to the Great Director would get some responses Lawrence! Glad you like the figures.

  5. Another uniform colour-combo I was not familiar with. (Thought they all wore the blue&red/white/etc) Pretty cool. Would hate to be that bloke with the spear in a musket era battle though.... What's that all about?

    1. Thanks Dai...I think you are referring to the Continental Uniform Regulations which I think might have been 1779? Before that, a lot of American Uniforms were whatever the state or colonel wanted...and as usual, there is debate about how universal the Continental Uniforms actually were in reality, as opposed to in theory!
The "spear" is a spontoon, carried by officers and possibly senior NCO's. Like a sword, not very practical on a 1780 battlefield!

  6. Nicely done Keith I suspect we are all pushing the boundaries on AWI colours and they were not that regular and often muddy brown !

    1. Thanks Matt....yes, a 1780 American army where every single unit was dressed as per the Continental Regulations would be pretty unrealistic, I imagine....but if you wanted to do that, fair enough , it's up to you!

  8. Great looking unit Keith.
As long as their pants aren't brown I am sure they will do well. 😁

  9. Classic brown and red combo, lovely troops and plausable flag, whats not to like? French chasseurs sound good ,my Perry set are somewhere in the painting queue but I can't see them! I thought the costumes/uniforms for Napoleon were possibly the best bit?
    Best Iain

    1. Thanks Iain....there certainly seem to be lots of brown coats in the Perry's very useful painting guide!
Personally, my favourite part of the film was the actress who played Josephine!😍😉
