Brief Spanish Civil War Update

A few more SCW figures have emerged from the painting desk recently - some the last of the Irregular figures that arrived some months ago, and others the first of the most recent arrivals from Panzer Garage

Irregular Miniatures Assaltos (Republican Assault Guards). This is one of each pose they make - not the best figures to be honest but I have not found anyone else who makes the Assaltos in 20mm so far....

The three Guardia Civile poses available from Irregular.

Guardia Civile group comprising the three Irregular figures, plus ten (two packs of five each) from Panzer Garage

The last six Irregular Republicans

Five Panzer Garage militiamen, painted up as CNT/FAI (denoted by the red and black headgear)

There are quite a few more Panzer Garage figures completed - their turn in a couple of days' time!

  1. A nice mix of units there Keith and I love the Republican leader who looks very haughty! I do sometimes wonder when I see some poses as to what was the intention of the designer, given that they are of limmited uses in a game. Love the background you've used for the photos BTW:).

    1. Thanks Steve....yes, some poses can be a bit odd but in the case of these, to be honest, they just aren't all that great....the officer looks quite ape like in the shape and length of his arms, and the two guys holding rifles across their chests aren't very good either.
As to the background, it's genuine Spain, sourced via Google Earth images ...just landed in some random highway in the countryside and swivelled the view around then took screen shots!

  2. The latest additions look good. I bet the fellow in the center of Photo #1 has a devastating right hook.

    1. Thanks Jon, maybe he should get an extra D6 in melee?!

  3. Nice mix of figures, good job tying them all together. Assaultos and Guardia Civil are my favorite units in the panoply of unusual that is the SCW. Nice touch on the background piece, thanks for the quick tutorial on how to do it.

    1. Thanks Joe, yes, I really like the look of these two units too...it's a shame Minairons don't have them in their range.....

  6. Irregular are very useful for filling gaps, but they could do with revisiting some of the older sculpts. As always, it is the splash of red that catches my eye :-)

    1. Thanks Norm, beggars can't be choosers, as they say, and Irregular are the only 20mm Assault Guards I have been able to find.

  7. Great work on some of the more difficult figures Keith. I too prefer to purchase the correct figures rather than mess around with conversions, which never turn out that well for me.

    1. Thanks Lawrence . I don't do a lot of converting either.

  9. Nice new additions! Those fellows in the first pic might not be from this planet, or perhaps from a timeline in the far future that Charleston Heston railed against when he came across the half-submerged statue of Liberty? :)
