15mm Update

Thought I would start the new month as I mean to go on, with a new post.

Here are a few more WWII 15mm Brits I completed in the last few days.

I also have a goodly number of 20mm Spanish Civil War figures done too, but they will wait till another post.

Fist up a few more infantry - 3 LMG (Bren) teams and a command team

The rest of this post comprises stuff from the full 4 gun RA 25lb battery that was part of the stuff Julian donated to me some time back

All four guns come with the same crew figures but with a slightly different precast resin scenic base.

I really like the look of the model and crew - three more to do!

This is the Battery CP - with an officer plotting fire missions on a map, a DR passing on fire orders and a fourth guy doing what we Brits do best - pouring a cuppa!

Finally, for this post, the box set also includes a Universal Carrier, Forward Observation Officer for the use of!

A great little model that's one single cast piece of resin, including the base, to which you just add the two metal crew figures.

Some nice additions to the small WWII expansion, although the guns may not actually be required for Heroes of Normandie....they will come in handy somewhere, I am sure! Thanks for dropping by and please leave a comment while you are here!

  1. Lovely work there Keith and I do like the scenic bases for the commanders. IIRC it was something that was fairly standard for FoW when it first came out way back when. I remember the vehicles cast onto bases too, which I didn't like, so sanded them off on a disc sander at work. Tricky to do and the resin stank!

  2. Thanks Steve - right back in the very early FoW days, when they were basically hand cast by a bunch of guys working with Mark of 1866 and All That, and I used to go in and help pack them, they were not that advanced - in fact, they were vehicles and guns only for a while, and then after 8-10 months, the sculptor was talked into giving figures a try.
Everything was cast resin, with metal tracks etc - I am unsure if any of their current stuff is still resin, or is it all plastic nowadays? I have not got any new FoW stuff for at least 15 years, so I don't know - I have the impression everything has been redone at least twice since the early days - even the infantry is hard plastic now, I think?
I have four of the "original" 25lb guns in my collection and they are different from these ones - maybe I will pull them out for a comparison when I paint the second of this batch.....

    1. I bought some FoW Russian tanks off a friend, un-painted nor assembled, with resin bodies and metal tracks. The bodies were so twisted it was hard to get the tracks level:(. This was when everything was being produced in Malaysia IIRC and they were incredibly popular. Simply a case of taking them out of the moulds too quickly.

I think all their core stuff is injection moulded these days, but they face stiff competition from other manufacturers now and have had to up their game.

    1. Thanks Scotty, prior to a couple of weeks ago, its a long time since I painted any 15mm but they are very nicely sculpted figures, which certainly helps!

  4. Nice work there Kieth on the 15mm WW2 Brits. I must admit that I'm not to good at painting 15mm- you've done a splendid job.

    1. Thanks Kev....as mentioned in my reply to Neil above, I think the quality of the sculpting certainly helps when it comes to the painting....the amount of detail on such small figures is incredible!

    2. You should see the 10mm figures sculpted by Clibinarium, which look as good as 15mm or larger. I don't know how he does it nor expects us to paint it!

    1. Thanks a lot Jon....I can't take much credit as placement of the gun and all the figures is predetermined by Battlefront....I just stuck the figures in the right holes on the bases! They do look nice though, don't they?

  8. I love the look of the FOW artillery batteries. I have a set of the German 10.5cm ones. Resin and metal with little resin embarnkments/berms. Looking forward to seeing a whole set from you. (hint hint)

  9. Nice work Keith and it is great watching the completed collection grow. The vast majority of my FoW stuff was purchased over ten years ago but I dread to think what awaits me when I finally get around to painting some. No chance of replacements there I don't think. I also bought a pile of resin scenic bases from a company called Kerr and King who are no longer in business.

    1. That is one of your 40 odd unpainted armies,is it Lawrence? šŸ¤”

    2. Three of the fifty or so left unpainted; British, German and Russian. That's why my purchases have slowed to an absolute trickle because I'll be struggling to complete them all, even in retirement.

    3. Yes well, I am not surprised! Maybe your show and tell should be some pix of your unpainted armies?!

  10. Oh, I used to have some of those battlefront bases; they were nice. I might still have them come to think; I haven't dug out my 15mm WWII stuff in a LONG time. Though they were painted when I was an extreme beginner so they're not worth looking at now. unlike my painting now which is passable. šŸ˜€

    1. Thanks Stew glad you liked my versions. Those molded bases are quite a good idea...my own FoW is all a lot older than yours
..long before they got this organized and professional!

  11. Very nice infantry additions Keith and those arti bases are the very same I had for my Flames of War Canadians. The bases really made them pop for sure.

The CP was a fav piece of my own collection too. Just so much fun character to the diorama.

Here is a summary post on my old FoW Canadians in case you are interested in checking them out. Didn't realise that was 10 years ago.... O_o http://lostdamnedstunted.blogspot.com/2013/12/state-of-commonwealth.html

    3. Ha! Well thank you. Sadly, when I moved out during the divorce, that whole collection was left behind. I can only assume my ex binned (Or maybe she was clever enough to actually sell them? NAH!) the lot of them to clear out space.
