Just for a change, this is not a post about Blitzkrieg Germans, although some of those fine fellows are on the painting desk at the moment.
Over the last couple of days, however, I pulled these figures from the lead drawer, where they have languished since arriving with the first batch of Blitzkrieg infantry in July!
Tonight, folks, it is a few additions to the Border Reivers collection, courtesy of the good people at Col Bills:
First up "Belligerent Reivers Wife and bairns!"
The English March Warden
And mounted version of the same
The Scots March Warden
Mounted
The Wardens confront a belligerent family!
I really must get these figures out again - I am sure I could manage to construct a three or four game small scale solo campaign using this collection!
Nice additions Keith. I enjoyed the Borderers game we played...of course winning helped!
ReplyDeleteSeems like a VERY long time ago now, Mark!
DeleteLovely work Keith. It seems quite a long time since you last added to this collection. They look like great figures to paint.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lawrence and yes, they are nice, chunky figures and easy to paint - the horses aren't the best though, particularly the Scots Wardens mount!
DeleteNice to see the Border residents get some attention. . Looking forward to your upcoming games.
ReplyDeleteThanks Joe, maybe they will be next for a solo game!
DeleteLovely looking figures and yes please to another game, it's a tempting period but I will be content to live vicariously through you( sounds a bit unpleasant maybe?)!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Nah that just seems like appropriate use of the word "vicariously " Iain!
DeleteExcellent figures, Col Bill's Border Reiver range are fab figures, have you anymore to paint up?
ReplyDeleteHi Ray, yes, they are very nice....no more on hand at present and to be honest I think I already have more than enough figures in this collection already....but never say never!
DeleteNice looking additions to the collection
ReplyDeleteCheers Scotty!
DeleteAdding some variety to the painting queue is a good thing.
ReplyDeleteIt certainly is Jon 👍
DeleteGreat looking minis sir!
ReplyDeleteThanks Michal
DeleteFine work and I'm sure there are many small scale actions to be played out with these and the other figures from your collection:).
ReplyDeleteThanks Steve and bo doubt you are right about potential games!
DeleteWell that was a sudden change of direction. Nicely painted figures Keith.
ReplyDeleteGlad you like them Richard!
DeleteGreat looking figures all-around, Keith. I do like the March Warden's authoritative pose!
ReplyDeleteThanks Dean, they are very characterful figures!
DeleteBorder Reivers (et al) are indeed a tempting era to dive into: small scale/low figure counts, swashbuckling action, and Elizabethan costume. With these figs and the right set of rules, I have no doubt that you could sustain a nice, narrative set of games.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ed, all it takes is time and effort on my part!
DeleteExcellent looking figures!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mark!
ReplyDeleteGreat looking figures Keith. I would be belligerent as well if I was taxed by the English and the Scottish kings. It's hard enough to make a dishonest living as it is without the government poking its nose into things.
ReplyDeleteSpoken like a true Aussie Ben!
DeleteThey probably ended up with a free sea voyage to Australia 😂
DeleteThats where I was going with this,,,,,!
DeleteVery nice indeed Keith…
ReplyDeleteThe Belligerents are a well known family on the Borders… I’m surprised they didn’t steal the March Warden’s horses. 😁
All the best. Aly
Thanks Aly, the original name was, of course, Bell-Igerent....shortened later to Bell, a well known Reiving family and closely related to the Morrisons, I believe? 😀
DeleteVery nice, I just finished a great pod cast on the 9 years war, these would be great to flip to Ireland.
ReplyDeleteCheers
Stu
Thanks Stu, yes, rural civilians like these can be multi use, I reckon. Could even get away with them in WWII in certain areas!
DeleteVariety is the spice of hobby life and keeps our mojo's running hot.
ReplyDeleteI like random civvie figs - they add more realism and interest to a table, even if they actually do nothing in-game.
Exactly my thoughts too, Dai!
