..... or, perhaps, it should be humble pie?
The reason being, my son appeared this evening bearing (birthday) gifts - to wit, a box of Infantry of the Sun King to match the cavalry set my daughter gave me last week - he even said, he thought it would be cool to get the set that matched what she had bought, rather than one of the other alternatives I had presented them with - now, that's impressive cognitive reasoning for a rugby playing builder - good lad!
And to pad the post out a bit, here are a few more recently painted AWI figures, the Perry metal command figures that arrived a few weeks back
Two Continental officers discussing tactics?
A militia field officer
And this is the plastic mounted officer that comes in the Warlord artillery box.
Thanks for dropping by (and commenting!) - I hope you enjoyed this post.
Oh ye of little faithπ! Great to see him co-ordinating the gift though and great work on the command bases.
ReplyDeleteThanks Steve....I admit, I was pleasantly surprised!
DeleteGreat to see your son came through with a nicely thought-out present Keith. Lovely work on the Continental command.
ReplyDeleteCheers Lawrence, glad you like the commanders.
DeleteNice! Coordinating gifts! Nice work on the AWI figures.
ReplyDeleteThanks Joe...yes, the boy done good!
DeleteWhat a nice surprise… you clearly brought your children up well π.
ReplyDeleteThe command figures work well… Alan Perry really captures so much character in these little fellows.
All the best. Aly
Thanks Aly, I am happy to take the credit for excellent parenting skills! And I agree, the Perry sculpts are greatπ
DeleteA lovely surprise and the added bonus of a matching set. The command figures also look great
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot Scotty, i was surprised and delighted by the second gift!
DeleteWell, there ya' go: Son comes through for Dad! Love the command figs, the militia officer in buckskin in particular (troops in that kit always seem to me to be of tougher stuff than what we usually think of as "militia").
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot Ed....perhaps the officer is a rifleman, rather than militia?
DeleteThat’s a nice and thoughtful surprise. Good looking mounted officers too!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jon, it was indeed!
DeleteBeautiful looking miniatures!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Michal - seems like it was your turn to end up in the Spam folder, where I just found and released your comment!
DeleteGood lad. Better than another pair of socks any day.
ReplyDeleteCheers JBM!
DeleteAhh! The boy comes good. Thoughtful gift to match things up.
ReplyDeleteThanks Richard and yes, I was quite impressed !
DeleteWell done that man, a nice present and a good match for the cavalry from your daughter. The AWI command figures look great some nice painting there, like the militia commander especially.
ReplyDeleteCheers Donnie, a small expansion to my GNW Russians is in the future now! The buckskin clad officer seems to be a crowd favourite π
DeleteTold ya it was in the mail.
ReplyDeleteNice painting. The officers are either discussing of trying to place the blame on each other. π
I shoulda never doubted ya, Stew ( or my son!)
DeleteYou are probably right about the two officers as well π
That's a great gift, well done the lad.
ReplyDeleteYes, his heart is definitely in the right place Michael - and he shares your illustrious name, too!
DeleteAlways better to be pleasantly surprised than unpleasantly disappointed Keith π
ReplyDeleteChildren seem to get more thoughtful as they age. Just takes boys a decade or more extra π
Thanks Ben - yes, I think you are right, I am quite lucky with my two, most of the time - now, if I could just get my wife trained.....LOL
DeleteNicely done figures Keith I have a few of those, the Perry AWI really are a lovely collection π
ReplyDeleteThanks Matt - I agree, the Perrys always do a great job - I am very tempted to get some extra metal to pad out the plastic units, but I don't really need scope creep on this project - I am only supposed to be doing a few American units to facilitate potential solo games in the future - I already have more than enough Brits and Hessians!
DeleteGood lad!! He's worked out what to get dad- without asking!! The Perry AWI are one of my favourite ranges.
ReplyDeleteThenks John, and agreed....can't really complain about the quality of my kids gift buying!
DeleteA belated Happy Birthday Keith!
ReplyDeleteFantastic gifts from both of your 'children'. It's really difficult buying presents for someone's hobby, so extra kudos for them for getting something that is perfect for you too!
Lovely painting of the officers too. Up to your usual excellent standard.
Regards, James
Thanks a lot on multiple fronts, James!
DeleteLovely present and excellent looking AWI types!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thanks a lot Iain!
