First 10mm Ancient Britons

Good evening, all, as promised in my last post, here are the first of the Cromarty Forge 10mm Ancient Britons, destined to take on the might of the already painted Roman legionaries. Once again, they are fantastically detailed little figures - in fact, too much detail in some respects, but do remember when viewing the paint work that normal wargamers of the average, greying variety, won't be able to see ANY of this detail with the naked eye!

Warband One

Warband Two

Warband One in combat with some of the invading Romans.

And finally for this post, a little bit of light reading I have been doing to get me in the mood for Romans v Britons, circa AD40-60! For those who do not know the author, he is very Bernard Cornwall-esque!

More holiday pix next time, you lucky people, you!

  1. What a cool start to the project. The figures are quite detailed as the size allows. I must admit at table length the effect is that of mass. Since the start of the project is some months back, which rules are you going to use ?

    1. Thanks Joe, they are great figures! As to rules, not really sure. I do have a copy of Hail Ceasar but the Warlord stable of rules aren't my favourite, so I might adapt something else....

  2. The camera is indeed unforgiving. The figures as pictured, though, look splendid--I'm sure that to the naked eye they must be impressive, indeed. Having painted up my share of small scale figures (6mm), I can imagine the effect a battle array will have on table (what miniatures is all about).

    1. Thanks Ed and yes, the mass look of the figures all grouped together is impressive!

    1. Thanks Ray...these Britons were a bit more work than the Romans, due to lack of uniformity, but they are worth the effort once completed.
I am enjoying the Scarrow books....on the third one now!

  5. Splendid looking Ancient Britons! I've just ordered a pile of Victrix Celts, a 28mm army, I might get some paint on them next year?!

    1. Ah, you are a better man than I, Iain....I couldn't face the number of figures required in 28mm! I look forward to seeing them in 2025 😀

  6. Great to see the Britons/Gauls Keith and they look great, with plenty of detail and nice animation too. Yep, I agree that most of the time we can't see diddly squat of any detail when on the table!

    1. Thanks Steve! Our figures are a bit like a skirting board....you worry about a loose paint brush hair etc when on your hands a knees painting it...but once it's done, no one will ever notice the slight imperfections 😉

    1. Thanks Lawrence....I did notice one of them seems to be wearing a torc or similar, that I had not seen while painting them.....but I am happy with the results of my efforts!

  9. A scary looking bunch of barbarians Keith! AKA the good guys. Amazing detail in that scale.
Nice bit of holiday reading there! I might have to dig out my Ross Leckie Scipio and Hannibal novels.

  10. Great job on the figures Keith and they will certainly give the Romans something to worry about.
There will be chariots soon? There is always room for some Mad Maximus action.

  12. Again, as with the EIR, figures are superb sculpts, and enhanced even more by your brushwork. I'm looking forward to seeing more of these.
