He is not a Bad Lad!

On Saturday, we had a visit from our son Michael, who is currently residing off site - although he will be back, it's just a house-sitting gig!

Nice to see him of course, but he also did me a favour by doing some minor joinery work that my dear wife would have expected me to do in the past - BUT NOW, we have an actual builder who knows what he is doing and has all the tools etc to do the job right, first time, and taking about half an hour rather than half a day!

My view as I partook of breakfast around 830am, Saturday morning!

Job done, he departed to go fishing with a couple of mates - unfortunately, not a great day on the water, so no snapper for us this time, but on the Sunday, there was a knock on the door, and a courier delivered a belated birthday present ...

Cheers Michael!! I have already constructed 18 of these figures, and 8 are even under coated!

Counting down to my 1000th post - I think this is 997 - so it should be within the next seven days I imagine - tell all your friends, it's going to be a big celebration!

  1. I've come to a point in my life where I hire a pro as often as not to do projects for all the reasons you mention. Good to have one in the family, though!

    1. I still enjoy tackling projects around the house. This week, during our current heat wave, the outside AC unit gave up in the late afternoon. With the help of the internet, AI, and YouTube, I was able to troubleshoot the problem, order the part from Amazon, and have it fixed and working by the next morning. Success! Saved about $400 for an after-hours, weekend HVAC company visit too.

    2. Thanks gents! I don't mind doing carpentry outside, where a slight error is easy to overlook ( I, with help from bros in law and a friend) built the retaining wall in our garden and I have put up 6' fences at two of the places we have lived, but I have never been keen on messing around inside, where quality standards have to be much higher! "Technical" jobs like your HVAC work I would never have attempted Jon, although I did install two new toilets a few years ago, with assistance from YouTube!

  3. Always useful to have, but luckily most of that sort of stuff I can do:). However I steer clear of plumbing and electrics for multiple reasons, aside from lack of tools and knowledge!

Another nice little package arrived there Keith and look forward to seeing the first batch painted.

    1. Thanks Steve, my problem is, I have to do these kinds of things so infrequently, it's always like I am doing it for the very first time...so I don't have the skills/ knowledge...and to add to the challenge, I usually don't have the $300 tools, either!
I have actually changed a couple of light fittings years ago....I think I was allowed to back then, now, it would be illegal unless I got a qualified sparky to check it and provide a code of compliance certificate saying it wouldn't burn my house down!

    1. Thanks Dean, he has been quite lucky...he decided he would like to be a builder around the age of 14/15 and was able to get an apprenticeship with a friend of ours and leave school as soon as he was allowed to. It took a bit longer than it should have for him to qualify because the course content etc changed two or three times, plus we had Covid for two years in the middle of it, but he is mow finally qualified!

  6. It is definitely handy having a tradesman in the family. Even better when they send you wargaming gifts
