From the Painting and Construction Desk

Another batch of Warlord WW2 Winter Wehrmacht, plus a sudden rush of construction work in this post

The next squad of six Landsers

Officer

Medic (with a Crooked Dice head swap)

Rifleman

Kneeling rifleman

Moving LMG crew

Now, in anticipation of an 8 player WW2 Ostfront game at Barrys next Sunday - I got my A into G and knocked out these 4 Red Army tanks I got a few months back in the discounted Achtung Panzer starter box (number 2)

A KV 1/2 on the left and three T34/76 - one is the Obr 1942 version and the other two the earlier version the Russians started the war with - different turrets are what sets them apart

Yesterday, five of us marked our daughter Amy's partner AJ's birthday at a local hostelry - a couple of drinks and this superb shared platter - even I thought this was good value at NZ $95 - when each of the constituent parts would set you back $20 to $25 each. The alcohol was still a rip off, but hey ho, that's what it is nowadays.

A few pix from the last day of our trip - these are just from the flight home - my wife was slagging me off, saying you would think I had never flown before! But I haven't ever flown up the S Island off the east coast before, and I thought the view was pretty cool.

Just after take-off, a few km north of Dunedin

Still flying off the east coast - maybe that is Oamaru (or Timaru a bit further north)

Part of the Southern Alps - the mountain range goes on, and on... and on - basically the entire length of the S Island.

Passing over Nelson at the northern end of the S Island

Zoom in and you will hopefully be able to see Farewell Spit, as we leave the S Island behind.

That's all for now - I will probably post a few more winter Germans in a couple of days' time - plus, the four soviet tanks are nearing completion.

  1. The Germans look great Keith, very nicely done. Looking forward to seeing the tanks when you paint them, looking good so far. The shared platter looks great and no wonder you took some photos from the plane, stunning!!

    1. Thanks Donnie - during my absence, the tanks have been more or less completed - bloody horrible decals applied - a job I really don't like doing! Glad you didn't think the high-altitude pics were a waste of time!

  2. Splendid figures, I particularly like the officer. The highlighting has been very well done and really lifts the figures and brings their characters out.

    1. Thanks Richard - the T34/76 in particular is a pretty easy build - I had not really intended to sit there and build them all in one session, but after the first one only took 15-20 minutes, I thought I might as well get them all done.

    1. Thanks Scotty - the German infantry may not agree with your second comment!

  5. I'm really enjoying your German Keith as they are so characterful. The tanks are coming together nicely as well. I can't blame you for looking out the window as I'd be doing the same thing.

  7. Nice job on the latest batch of figures. You are really motoring through the AFV kits in the latest push. A bit sad to see your NZTB work end for now. Saying farewell from the jet at 20,000 feet seems a fitting goodbye to the South Island.

    1. Thank you Jon. I surprised myself somewhat, building four tank kits in one session! Glad you liked the airborne shots.

  9. Great looking figures there Keith.
It looks like the officer has seen the Soviet tanks. He does not look happy 😁
I always like looking out the windows of planes. I don't think I am going to make it into orbit to get a better view 😂

    1. Thanks Ben - he will certainly be seeing some Russian tanks come Sunday! Living on a long, narrow island, most of our flight are over the sea most of the time, so there isn't a lot to look at - this trip north from Dunedin was a nice chang of pace!

  10. Not sure about the ahistoric headswap LOL Nah, they look great! I know you like your combat-ladies.

New tanks - will they be getting some whitewash camo?

    1. Cheers Dai....yeah I don't think the Germans had female medics in forward areas...maybe by 1944/5 but not in 41! Just a bit of poetic license 😆
I decided not to make the tanks winter specific, then I can use them all year round in future games...

  11. I've never been drawn to Winter games, probabaly due to having to have a whole new set of scenery, but I must admit thos figures do look pretty cool:)! Eating out here in the UK is so expensive now, that it even made the news last week. Last year in Nantes we ate out and the prcie for four of us was the same as for two in Bristol, but with better quality food!

    1. I am in a similar position Steve....these (and the earlier winter. Russians) are my first foray into seasonally specific figures!
I remember 40 years ago, when a £ got you $3 here....eating out at all levels was approximately the same number in the UK and NZ IE a Big Mac was £2 there and $2 here, or a steak was £15 v $15....so really, it was three times more expensive in Britain....I don't know if that's still the case though
