Some Newly Minted 3D Red Army Figures

I have painted up all the command packs I received recently from Battle Honours in the UK. Great figures although they are a bit fragile (a few gun barrels snapped off, and I had to replace them). I think they look pretty good, but I probably wont get any more from this supplier due to the fragility and also their postage policy!

First up, the command group in summer uniform

I interpret the figures as a couple of RT operators, two NCO' and two officers, one being female.

Now the same figures in the Padded Jacket uniform

You may have noticed, both officer have been awarded "gongs"!

And the third group are in full-on winter uniforms

Finally, here are some size comparisons with a range of other 28mm figures in my collection

L-R Battle Honours, Wargames Factory 28mm Plastic, Battle Honors, Mr3d Print (Eugene Smichnik), Battle Honours, Mr3d Print (Eugene Smichnik), RKX, Warlord Plastic, Warlord Metal

L-R Battle Honours, RKX, Battle Honors, Warlord Plastic, Battle Honours, Mr3d Print (Eugene Smichnik), Wargames Factory and Battle Honours.

A bit late to the party, but I finally got the NaukNauk app on my phone and created a couple of 5 second animations - some are better than others - my favourite is probably the GNW Livgarden advancing!

Now, once posted, I am off to check PWJ to see if my thumb nail is displayed or not!

  8. Nicely done Keith and beautifully painted, but annoying about the snapped gun barrels. That is one of the things that puts me off a bit about 3D prints, but when i stop and think about it the same happens to metal and plastic figures and tanks.

    1. Thanks Lawrence...yes, a few metal bayonets and spears come off now and then, don't they?!

  11. Great work on the Russians Keith. Not sure how the GNW Swedes will deal with them though 😁

The videos came out well. I liked how the figures riding the tank moved and the Swedes was excellent.

    1. Thanks Ben - it was your mention of NaukNauk that finally convinced me to give it a go. It's all about the description, as you know - the last one I did with tank riders, they just sat there motionless, so this time I wrote something like "with the men on the back moving around in time with the motion of the tank and holding on so they don't fall off"

  12. Lovely figures there Keith and nicely painted too:)! One of the downsides I found with 3D prints over the years at work was that they soon became brittle as the prints 'dried out'. Taking them off their supports could be challenging and driven by Anglo-Saxon expletives at times!

    1. Thanks Steve - I have to admit; this batch are a bit brittle. I have had previous ones where the resin is almost rubber like in composition, so small parts like bayonets or rifle barrels might bend but they don't snap off.
The Battle Honours figures are really nice but several of them arrived minus SMG barrels, and I have managed to knock a couple more of being a bit ham fisted handling them while painting.....

  13. Great looking Soviets, they all seem to work well together, I think Ive been lucky with the 3d printed figures being if anything a bit bendy, also the battle honours figures seem to have lots if little bits sticking out, Id worry about them getting snapped off!

    1. Thanks Iain - yes, I love the detail of the BH figures, but they are a bit too brittle - the JJG ones (in contrast) are, as you describe it, "a bit bendy" - so SMG barrels etc won't snap off. But is used to receive 30 fig packs of OG figures bent to buggery and missing half their bayonets etc, so it's not an issue unique to 3D resin!

  14. Nice additions! Lots of pointy shouty types, very appropriate to command.
