Not A Lot Happening

Posting has dropped off a bit recently, primarily because I am having a bit of a lull in enthusiasm for painting.

Here are some figures I did pull out of my "back catalogue" (purchased about 18 months ago I think) They are 28mm milicianas from Templar Miniatures in Bonnie Scotland.

For 28mm, they are quite petite, but I am still happy with how they have come out.

A size comparison with male figures from the same range - as I say, the "girls" may be a bit too diminutive in comparison - what do you think? (I also made the mistake of putting the female figures on a narrow base, which unfortunately amplifies the height difference - duh!)

Finally, in real life news, after suffering basically NO winter illness for about 6 years (since Covid stopped being "a thing" I seem to have succumbed to this:

Bad timing because I was due to attend a Napoleonic game at Barrys tomorrow - but have had to pull out.
I only started feeling ill on Friday evening, so knowing my luck, I will be sick all weekend, then clear again on Monday to return to work!

Hope things are well with you wherever you are in the world!

  1. A lull in enthusiasm for painting, you?! Mind you, not surprising if you have had the 'flu coming on. Hopefully all better come Monday ready to head off to work to earn more to support your hobby?!!
Best wishes for a speedy recovery, James

    1. Thanks James, yes, I am feeling pretty sorry for myself at the moment, that's for sure!

  2. No surprise that painting mojo has dropped given that you have picked up a nasty bug. Hope you make a speedy recovery just in time to return to work! The girls do look quite small and skinny compared to their hulking compadres.

    1. Thanks Jon - I have basically been sleeping for the last 36 hours and unless I have a very sudden improvement, don't expect to be work tomorrow. Rick and Nick from our group have had it previously and it knocked them out for 5-6 days

  3. I wish you a speedy recovery! The figurines are interesting.

  4. Sorry to hear you've gone down with the local lurgy Keith:(. Hard to get any enthusiasm when affected like this. Whilst the girls do look a bit skinny compared to the chaps, I think they will look fine on the table and the size difference might help them to stand out compared to the lads as it were.

    1. Thanks Steve - I don't think I have had any kind of illness for about 4-5 years, and this is a particularly bad one!

  5. Nice painting Keith, the ladies are perhaps a little diminutive but will be fine if they stay away from the men ? Hope the seasonal illness isn’t too bad and clears up,soon

    1. Thanks Matt - yes, once deployed om the table, the size difference probably won't mailer! Comments on the illness from Rick " I have just recovered from five miserable days of the virus. The coughing has driven me mad " and Nick "I’m a couple weeks post the virus and still feel pretty flat.
I had the chesty cough, muscular aches, headaches and chills."

  6. The Templar miniatures turned out nice, I have a few in my own SCW collection. The ladies do seem a little on the small side. Hope you have a speedy recovery

    1. Thanks Scotty, yes, agreed, they are pretty good figures! I reckon I will have a day or two longer before I start to feel any better.....

  7. The ladies almost look like they have had a different sculptor, but as Matt says they look fine on separate bases. Annoying that you have got sick so close to the end of the season. I hope it passes quickly.

    1. Cheers Lawrence! Very annoying to pick up this bug after several years of nothing. Some people at work have had it hang around for two weeks, or longer!

  8. The ladies look lovely Keith and maybe you need to cut the boy's rations if they are a bit chunky 😁

I hope you recover soon from your "man flu", I know the ladies don't understand how tough it is. And maybe an extra week off to catch up with your painting is in order 😂

    1. Thanks Ben. This one definitely isn't a man-flu - my female boss said it was really bad for two days then got progressively better although even a week later she is still sleeping a lot more than normal!

  9. The miniatures look really good!
    Get well soon!

  11. Hope for a quick recovery for you Keith and back to full gaming and painting! Nice work on the ladies, not a company I have come across before but they look very decent indeed.

    1. Cheers Donnie. I think it must be a very small "cottage industry" type arrangement. When I was trying to buy them, the guy said he was out of stock on most of what I wanted but would be going to Carronade or some other show so would have them available then - it took a couple of months but eventually I was able to order them. I notice now that many of their codes are out of stock again...

  12. Hi Keith,

They look smashing regardless of the scale difference. Absolute gutting news about the game at Barry's and missing out on the weekend dice, though! Wishing you a speedy recovery mate.

    All the best, Andy

    1. Thanks Andy - I started an avalanche of withdrawals - 4 out of 8 - so the game has been postponed till first Sunday in Sept

    2. Ah, that’s a result in a roundabout way! Glad you won't miss out on the battle altogether. September's not far off, so hopefully everyone's back on their feet and ready for action by then.

      All the best, Andy

  13. Enthusiasm is a fickle thing sometimes, but I hope yours returns soon. Take great care and look after yourself. I think the miniatures look great and will soon meld perfectly when on the table proper.

  15. Sorry to hear you aren't feeling well and can't generate enthusiasm for your hobby goals. Hopefully the flu will pass you quickly; you will no doubt be awesome after you recovery. The female troops are nice. I would mount them on thicker bases as someone else suggested. Rest, get better.

    1. Thanks Joe - yes, putting the female figures on a thin base was pretty dumb!

  16. Sorry to hear that you've got the flu Keith. Even though it's not winter here there's a bit of a coughing thing going on.
Take it easy and get well soon.

    1. Thanks Chris - this is quite a nasty virus - we have had people at work off for 2-3 days, back for a day, off again, back again etc. Another measure is the number of kids (and teachers) off sick - "Official data shows the past couple of weeks have been the worst in three years for school absences due to illness and medical reasons.
Ministry of Education data shows that last week almost 10 percent of class time was lost across the country due to illness".

  17. Thank God it’s not man flu mate. Worse than child birth they reckon. Nice figures btw. Girls look fine next to the lads, you’re being too critical.
    Get better soon!

  18. The "mojo stalls" happen to the best of us mate. Is okay, there's no schedule or deadline to work to here and we, your readership, are a patient and understanding lot.
Sorry to read about the illness tho. Be sure to rest up, get daily sunlight and drink more Hot Toddies. ;)

New Spaniards looks great by the way. I think the size differences aren't that big a deal. Women can be flippin tiny at times, child-sized weirdos.

  21. Nice looking young ladies Keith…
Maybe they are youthful student volunteers from one of the more Left thinking universities.
I recognise their male comrades as from the old FAA range which I had quite a few of in the past… I actually made couple of additions to the range…😁..
I hope you recover from the lurgy soon…It’s a bad sign when you don’t want to paint toys…

    All the best. Aly
