Today, six members of our usual group, plus Barry the umpire, met a Barry's place in Auckland for a medieval game loosely based on the battle of Agincourt.
As I am still unable to work out how to add comments under each image, unfortunately I will have to just put all the descriptions together below, then load the images.
The game was quite close fought in the end although the French certainly won a Pyrrhic victory, in that they completely destroyed the English army, but had very few units left on the field at the end of hostilities.
The French plan was a little bit more subtle than the original historical one, in that they advanced on both flanks as well as sending a third of their force against the English centre.
Mark, John and Paul commanded the French, while Chris, Rick and I took the English.
The images should hopefully be in this Order
Initial English dispositions
English line from behind the French starting position
The French advance commences
French knights on the right flank
French knights on the left flank
The French centre advancing
Close up of some French Knights
A Melee between English dismounted Knights and French men at arms
English centre, the archers have pulled back and French Knights have breached the defensive line
The lone unit of mounted English Knights
The French Knights close on English archers
The English Knights sandwiched between two French units
A gaping hole in the English left
Plucky English archers hold off two units of mounted Knights in close combat
But the end is nigh...the knights break the archers
Glad you reported this Keith. I only took three images...not enough to support a post!
ReplyDeleteCheers Mark...not the best report, what with the technical challenges I have using the iPad, but at least it's something!
DeleteGood looking game Keith, nice to get the first game in.
ReplyDeleteCheers
Stu
Thanks Stu. Yes I am hoping to get a good few more games in this year than last. This was a fun first outing
DeleteGood looking game to start the new decade with!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thanks Iain. Although we were vanquished in the end, this game actually lasted a lot longer than I had expected and was a pleasant way to spend most of Sunday with like minded friends.
DeleteThat's a nice-looking game Keith, and a great way to start the year/decade.
ReplyDeleteCheers Lawrence. Yes hopefully the early start to the gaming well will auger well for 2020!
DeleteSplendid... a French win.
ReplyDeleteChanging history at the start of a new decade...
Any chance that you could work your magic elsewhere in the world.... ;-)
All the best. Aly
Well to be fair Aly, to work my magic, I would need to be your opponent, as I played on the losing English side! Mark did most of the damage I think, his two companions really just swapped unit for unit with us so that by the end, they also had very few troops left...as I said, a Pyrrhic victory, but a victory nonetheless.
