A Labour Weekend Labour of Love!

The third Monday of October is always "Labour Weekend" here in New Zealand - I assume because May Day in the northern hemisphere is in spring and our colonial ancestors thought a public holiday to celebrate the working man, forty hour week etc should be in the same season, rather than mid Autumn (or perhaps there is a more specific reason, like the anniversary of some forward looking piece of worker friendly legislation - if you are sufficiently interested, you can Google it!)

The point is - I had an extra day off work, we are still restricted to the boundaries of metropolitan Auckland, and as is traditional, the weather has been pretty average - queue a lot of time spent at the painting desk!

The outcome of this is a completed regiment of Old Glory War of 1812 US Regular Infantry.

The full regiment advancing

The right flank

The left flank

Two shots of the command element, followed by one shot each of the remaining six. The flag is a generic regimental colour found on the internet, as is my wont.

I think I mentioned in a previous post that I have several units of these to paint up, plus a 15 man unit of US militia, who are on the painting desk as I type - they are proving pretty quick to paint so likely to appear here in a couple of days time.

    1. Cheers JBM - the weather cleared long enough for me to cut the grass today so at least that kept the missus off my back!

    1. Thanks Norm - a change is as god as a rest, so they say! These 1812 figures have been kicking their heels in my lead pile for quite a few months now, so nice to get some work done on them at last.

    1. Cheers Kev - I am one of the least affected by our lock down - I have still been able to go to work every day, so my life is relatively unchanged. I dont know what it would be like if I had been cooped up at home for 12 weeks or whatever its been!

  11. Ahhh, the proper way to spend a holiday; painting figures. Only thing that could be better is gaming. All my holidays are WASTED playing with my children. 😀😀

    1. Haha - I well remember those days Stew - fortunately, my kids are now 20 and 22 (still at home thanks to bloody Covid)and not particularly inclined to spend any more time in my company than they have to! With your recent late arrival, you must have at least another ten or twelve years of wasted holidays!

    3. Its schadenfreude - a particularly nasty sort of joy (hence it has a German name I suppose!) - I well remember missing HUNDREDS of Sunday games in the last decade of the 20th century and the first of the 21st, as my children slowly grew to semi maturity!

  14. Lovely work Keith, they look very sharp. Public holiday here in Brisbane on Friday so I hope to be doing the same thing, although I'll no doubt still get calls from the rest of Australia where it isn't a holiday.

  17. Thanks James - progress has slowed again after a bit of speed over the long weekend - might hopefully get the US militia unit done by the end of this working week though.

  18. Nothing quite like banging out a unit over a long weekend: always liked the look of the 1812 US colors. They really do top off a unit!
