The third Monday of October is always "Labour Weekend" here in New Zealand - I assume because May Day in the northern hemisphere is in spring and our colonial ancestors thought a public holiday to celebrate the working man, forty hour week etc should be in the same season, rather than mid Autumn (or perhaps there is a more specific reason, like the anniversary of some forward looking piece of worker friendly legislation - if you are sufficiently interested, you can Google it!)
The point is - I had an extra day off work, we are still restricted to the boundaries of metropolitan Auckland, and as is traditional, the weather has been pretty average - queue a lot of time spent at the painting desk!
The outcome of this is a completed regiment of Old Glory War of 1812 US Regular Infantry.
Beautifully painted 1812 War figures, Keith. Time well spent.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dean - you were quick off the mark with your comment!
DeleteTime well spent mate. Nice one.
ReplyDeleteCheers JBM - the weather cleared long enough for me to cut the grass today so at least that kept the missus off my back!
DeleteThey look great. One of those periods I've never got around to
ReplyDeleteThanks Scotty - I was inspired by our gaming mate Mark S - actually, I kind of took over his project!
DeleteVery fine work, Keith! Good to see your time off was well spent.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jon - yes indeed, "bad" weather isn't always bad!
DeleteNicely done and a nice change of subject at the painting table.
ReplyDeleteThanks Norm - a change is as god as a rest, so they say! These 1812 figures have been kicking their heels in my lead pile for quite a few months now, so nice to get some work done on them at last.
DeleteNice work here on your 1812 US Keith. Hope your Covid Restrictions ease soon- hard to take being cooped up. Stay well and safe. Cheers. KEV.
ReplyDeleteCheers Kev - I am one of the least affected by our lock down - I have still been able to go to work every day, so my life is relatively unchanged. I dont know what it would be like if I had been cooped up at home for 12 weeks or whatever its been!
DeleteSplendid work there Keith and the flag reallu works well alongside the dark hats:)
ReplyDeleteThanks Steve - yes, I thought the National flag looked pretty cool too!
DeleteNicely done rross, great details!
ReplyDeleteMerci mon ami!
DeleteExcellent work sir!
ReplyDeleteThank you Michal.
DeleteNice unit the benefits of time off work and poor weather 👍
ReplyDeleteThanks Matt - I have certainly enjoyed the long weeeknd!
DeleteA fine looking unit Kieth…
ReplyDeleteThe War of 1812 American uniforms always look nice and smart.
All the best. Aly
Cheers Aly - I will be following your own excursion into this conflict with great interest!
DeleteAhhh, the proper way to spend a holiday; painting figures. Only thing that could be better is gaming. All my holidays are WASTED playing with my children. 😀😀
ReplyDeleteHaha - I well remember those days Stew - fortunately, my kids are now 20 and 22 (still at home thanks to bloody Covid)and not particularly inclined to spend any more time in my company than they have to! With your recent late arrival, you must have at least another ten or twelve years of wasted holidays!
DeleteNow you’re just trying to depress me. 😀
DeleteIts schadenfreude - a particularly nasty sort of joy (hence it has a German name I suppose!) - I well remember missing HUNDREDS of Sunday games in the last decade of the 20th century and the first of the 21st, as my children slowly grew to semi maturity!
DeleteTime well spent, they look good.
ReplyDeleteThanks Joe - I certainly thought it was a better use of my time than the hour I spent cutting our grass on Monday!
DeleteGreat job, those are lovely.
ReplyDeleteCheers
Stu
Thanks Stu, appreciate your comments as always!
DeleteLovely work Keith, they look very sharp. Public holiday here in Brisbane on Friday so I hope to be doing the same thing, although I'll no doubt still get calls from the rest of Australia where it isn't a holiday.
ReplyDeleteCheers Lawrence, if you are on leave, just don't answer them - they need to learn! Hope to see a post early next week with another batch of 15mm Samurai or 28mm Napoleonics!
DeleteVery nice Keith. Cousin Jonathan would be proud of those.
ReplyDeleteThanks - I had to Google your "Cousin Johnathan" reference - obviously my project research is not of an acceptable standard!
DeleteJust commented on your previous in which you mentioned these and 'presto' here they are! Superb!
ReplyDeleteRegards, James
Thanks James - progress has slowed again after a bit of speed over the long weekend - might hopefully get the US militia unit done by the end of this working week though.
ReplyDeleteNothing quite like banging out a unit over a long weekend: always liked the look of the 1812 US colors. They really do top off a unit!
ReplyDeleteThanks Ed - yes, its a nice looking flag, for sure!
