Inbound Freight.....

I returned from a business trip to Christchurch on Wednesday (no photos sorry, didn't really see anything worthy of recording!) to find a small cardboard carton from Caliver on my painting desk. Sent from Nottingham on 19 August, it arrived here about six weeks later - mind you, as it was addressed to Auckland, Australia (!) it had possibly had a week + detour!

Inside were a few additions for my Pulp project - a Turkish contingent has joined the fun - I already have one character figure in the shape of a Reaper dancing girl, but it will be fun to find and purchase a few more to add to the basic troop types!

My statement that I saw nothing worth taking a picture was not quite true - I have wanted to get a couple of pics of this historic aircraft on most of my visits to Christchurch, as it is handily located just a few hundred yards from the airport and we often grab a meal at one of the adjacent eateries - however, so far, I have lacked the moral fortitude to ask my colleagues to let me play tourist and get my camera out! So, these are courtesy of a Google search on "Spitfire Square Christchurch......"

Thats it for today - might have some painted stuff to post in a day or two. Till then, take care!

  1. Six weeks is probably not too bad, given the address mix-up. I'll look forward to seeing the completed Turks in due course Keith. That Spitfire Square seems an odd thing to put in front of a supermarket, but I like it. It's almost like a full-sized version of those model kits that came with the transparent plastic flight stand back in the day.

    1. Thanks Lawrence, yes, allowing for the fact it probably took a week for OzPost to realise Auckland is in New Zealand, the delay isn't excessive! I am not sure, but think it's possible the airport site was originally an RNZAF base....hence the Spitfire close by.....

  2. Some nice new arrivals there Keith and love the Spitfire which, as Lawrence has said, looks like it's mounted on one of the old model kit stands.

    1. Yes I agree with you both, Steve....the support structure does have that Airfix model look about it!

  3. Glad your order from Cavalier eventually arrived Kieth. I gave up on my order with Baccus UK...waiting 50 days +...lost all interest in the project and now have a full Refund on the order...the order did arrive and I've posted it back to Baccus....cost $43.50 for me to post- end of story. Now enthused about my 15mm Sci-Fi Project (Laser burn)- very much looking forward to the new Project. Cheers. KEV.

    1. Thanks Kev, I am pleased they arrived too, despite their little detour to your fair land! I had to do a return to sender to Caliver once, actually, as they sent me the same order twice. As long as you don't open the carton, you can write "return to sender" and amend the address and the PO should accept it at no charge, it's part of the international postal agreements....I would not have known but Dave at Caliver told me and sure enough, handed over the counter at NZPost and the lady didn't bat an eyelid, just accepted it!

  4. Keith, you have a lot of goodies inbound! I big box of lead showed up on my doorstep yesterday. The carrier asked, "what do you have in here, lead?" Me: "yep."

    1. Actually, it's been rather restrained recently Jon, I have nothing else on order and the last couple of arrivals have only been small batches of figures. The last decent sized arrival was the delayed Brigade order! If the USD wasn't so rampant, I might consider another $125 and $15 postage order with them (I have a hankering to add to my WWI in E Africa collection) but they would be too pricey at the moment! 58c to our dollar currently, it's normally around 70 and I can remember it being 85 about five or six years ago! That's when I was getting bulk Old Glory with the Army card 40% discount ...happy days 😀

    2. I recall many years ago when AUD $1 = USD $0.55 that I would buy Eureka figures straight from Nick.

    3. When I first came to NZ in 1988, £1 = $3NZ....now, it's slightly less than $2! That's good for me, buying from the UK, of course!

    1. Thanks Scotty...your recent posts of Copplestone Turks provided the impetus to get these ordered, so I hope they turn out nicely once painted up!

  8. Great to get your delivery. Not too long considering the mislabelling and good to finally get the package.
No doubt those Turks will be patrolling Gallipoli against ANZACs - Agents of New Zealand's Antiquarian Collectors 😊

  10. New toys are always a good thing Keith…
At least the parcel wasn’t addressed to
‘ Keith who likes toy soldiers, Down Under’ 😁

Love the Spitfire… I does look like a very big Airfix model on that stand…I wonder if it was delivered on a giant sprue and came with a massive tape of glue…😜

    All the best. Aly
