Over the weekend I got the 18 Warlord figures for my first Russian GNW regiment completed.
The full battalion
Right hand stand, with three grenadiers.
Command with the corrected sashes thanks to helpful advice from Valentine, converted pikemen to the rear.
The left hand stand with six standard musketeers
I am happy with how these have come out and have now started work on the second unit, which is Weides Grenadier battalion. I hope to have them completed in a few days.
Thanks for visiting and I look forward to your feedback on these figures!
Beautiful looking unit sir!
ReplyDeleteThanks Michal
DeleteVery productive weekend for you. Your Redcoats look fab!
ReplyDeleteIt was indeed Jon, hopefully the next unit isn't too far off.
DeleteNice work on the Russians Kieth- look forward to seeing the next unit in due course.
ReplyDeleteThank you Kev
DeleteSimply amazing, Keith! It is very good that you introduced the pikemen. Even here, in Russia, it has only recently been recognized that peaks took place during the Northern War. Soviet historians denied this as an anachronism ....
ReplyDeleteThanks Valentine. It was obviously a time of transition and change under the leadership of Peter the Great. I don't think every Russian unit would have included pikes, but from what I have read, some certainly did.
DeleteHave to admit that red-coated Russians seem a bit off for my eye but your troops are great
ReplyDeleteThat's the great thing about this era Greg....the Russians still had multi coloured uniforms. The majority were in the "national" dark green faced red uniform, but at least a third of the units wore different combinations, which makes for some nice variety.
DeleteProductive weekend! I think the miniatures look nice indeed. 😀
ReplyDeleteCheers Stew, appreciate you comments 😊
DeleteVery very nice that man!
ReplyDeleteThanks Ray, glad you approve.
DeleteWell done matey - they look ace.
ReplyDeleteThank you JBM, I think they have turned out well.
DeleteThey look superb
ReplyDeleteCheers Scotty, I am happy with them.
DeleteFine work as always and good to see the Grenadiers and Pikemen added too. I'm so used to the SYW with converged grenadier Battalions, so I wonder if these were ever used during the GNW?
ReplyDeleteThanks Steve. I believe the answer is yes, they did converge grenadier battalions in this Era. In fact, in the Tacitus blog site I am using for a lot of my info, there are several "Grenadier " regiments (I am currently painting up Weides Grenadier Regt) which were apparently created from grenadier companies of various other units...
DeleteGreat looking unit, and certain to give your Swedish contingent a run.
ReplyDeleteThanks Joe, must get another of those "mini" Beneath Lilly Banners scenarios on the table soon and give both GNW armies a try out!
DeleteRed Coats! No wonder the revolution started in St Petersburg! 😂
ReplyDeleteVery nicely done. Figures, bases and flags
Thanks Ben - they look a bit British don't they - apart from the green leggings of course! the nice thing (as previously noted) about the Russian army of this period is a great variety of uniform and facing colours!
DeleteSuperb Keith. This is a really stand unit.
ReplyDeleteThank you Richard!
DeleteA lovely looking unit Keith
ReplyDeleteThere was certainly a lot more colour to the Russian armies than people think…
All the best. Aly
Thanks Aly. I think perhaps from the SYW period onwards, they were basically dark green faced red, but in this earlier period, there was still lots of variety
DeleteSuperb looking figures, very impressed. A wonderful unit for the tabletop. Thank you - Quinn
ReplyDeleteThank you Quinn....do you have a blog I could pay a return visit to? I tried following your posting name but it's a dead end 😊
DeleteHello, unfortunately we haven’t reached that step yet of having a blog. We are both working full time, it is very busy. However my wife and I are hoping to publish a rules book for toy soldier war games in the near future. Fingers crossed. 🙏
DeleteGreat looking troops, Keith. The red with green facings are a striking combination. Love the mitres on the grenadiers too.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dean, seems like we have both been working on Russians recently.
DeleteThose look excellent..... Great stuff Keith.....
ReplyDeleteCheers Stew - the next unit is completed and started a cavalry squadron too!
DeleteNicely done Keith they will certainly Stan out in their red uniforms 👍
ReplyDeleteStand out
DeleteThanks Matt, they do make a statement with their attire, don't they?!
DeleteVery smart Keith. Beautiful work.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lawrence, they are a very nice first unit to complete for the Russian GNW expansion!
