I have got a few of the recently arrived Cromarty Forge 10mm Romans painted, plus, I don't think I ever updated the progress made on the Gripping Beast figures received back in February.
I started on the Onagers, as there are only two of them - beautifully detailed, particularly given the small scale!
I have six of these " Scorpions" but only painted one up at this stage
Again, lovely detail on this model
These senior commanders are from the metal Gripping Beast range
Not the same level of detail but perfectly acceptable figures nonetheless
My personal favourites are the legionaries in the testudo (tortoise) formation!
I will end up with three bases of four strips each, as shown here
Below are the Gripping Beats units that I painted a few weeks back
I made a beginners mistake, and painted up all five legionary commands in different uniforms and shield design - but of course I did not consider that the 90 legionaries I purchased were insufficient to create five units - so two units have two of three bases completed and the other three only have the command base - I also have five unpainted auxiliary command sets, so need to buy more legionaries and even more auxiliaries, to end up with ten units in total - probably far too many but I don't need to use them all in every game!
Thats it again for tonight - more again soon!
These units look great, Keith! I especially like the look of the onagers and testudo.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jon, me too, and as I said, the testudo is definitely my favourite!
DeleteStellar work on these!
ReplyDeleteThank you Bill!
DeleteGreat work Keith. The testudo's are fantastic. You can't have too many Romans, the legions are numberless (not strictly true but you know what I mean) 😁
ReplyDeleteThanks Ben, I think they look great, too! The legions may be numberless but the emperor had a whole empire to house them...my storage space is more limited!
DeleteSuch a lot of detail. Amazing. But 'fess up now....you were gonna do 5 legions, no?
ReplyDeleteThey are very nice, aren't they Joe? No, I am not even intending to do one full legion, because even if I used one single base of 14 figures to represent a century, I would need 11 centuries per cohort and 4 cohorts for a legion...616 10mm figures...plus a small number of cavalry!
DeleteI am happy just having them as ahistorical, non specific "units"!
So with auxiliaries and cavalry only a 1,000 per legion. Is that REALLY too many? 😂
DeleteI think it might be, Ben! I do have other projects on the go, simultaneously, you know. PLUS I need some time to play games!
DeleteVery nice work and cracking little figures, really look great in such a small scale, the testudo is particularly very impressive.
ReplyDeleteCheers Donnie, they are pretty cool, aren't they?!
DeleteThe Onager and Testudo are my favourites.
ReplyDeleteThanks Scotty - they certainly seem to get the popular vote!
DeleteFantastic work on little Romans sir!
ReplyDeleteThank you Michal!
DeleteNow they do look the biz! Love the Testudo!
ReplyDeleteCheers Ray - seems like everyone enjoys Turtle Power!
DeleteThe wood-graining on the artillery pieces looks great, and you have really brought it out to good effect. Lovely figures and great painting.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lawrence - I did think I did a reasonable job on the wood grain, but have to give credit to the sculpting, which makes it so much easier to bring out!
DeleteLovely Romans, my plan is to do lots so I can game the year of the four emperors when I'm not fighting barbarians!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Iain - you have a PLAN? - maybe that's where I have been going wrong?! I am just following my nose on this project and seeing where it leads!
DeleteBrilliant models fabulously painted Keith. You are really doing a great job on this project. The onagers look amazing.
ReplyDeleteThanks Richard, they really are excellent figures and a joy to paint.
Deletevery nice! looks great. 😁
ReplyDeleteThanks Stew, I really like these 3d 10mm figures!
DeleteNice work Keith the romans have come out nicely 👍
ReplyDeleteCheers Matt!
