This unit has been chosen because a) they have white facings rather than the the more usual yellow and b) because they are wearing the uniquely Swedish Karpus headgear, rather than the common or garden tricorn. The flag is, as has become standard for this project, quite attractive as well!
Following are a couple of references I found online for the Nylands Regimentet
From the above, it would seem that from 1709, this regiment moved to the standard yellow faced uniform, and by 1712 had been issued with the tricorn, but we wont let these minor details stop us ( in any case, a goodly portion of the Great Northern War happened prior to 1709!)
I found loads of these illustrations of Swedish GNW units by the same artist via a Pinterest page located using Google - isn't the internet a useful tool sometimes?!
Here is my version - command base only so far....
Officers always wear a tricorn, of course!
The white facings and Karpus hats are a nice change I think, and the blue leggings add to their uniqueness.
A couple of close ups of the pike men as they seem to be mainly concealed in most of the previous images
That's it for tonight - next post in a few days when I have finished off the rest of this unit!
Great work sir! I'm working on Karelian Dragoon now from 1800+ years :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Michal - I look forward to seeing your Swedish Dragoon very soon!
DeleteFlag reminds me of Christmas. I like the white facings, Why the mix of white and buff facings on this stand?
ReplyDeleteThanks Jon...yes, red and green are reminiscent of Christmas! All the facings are white...but the thre officers have elk skin gauntlets so looks like they have buff coloured cuffs perhaps?
DeleteThat's it! Thanks for clarifying.
DeleteThey are very nice Keith...
ReplyDeleteI do like the white facings... I makes a nice change from yellow/straw...
And another fine flag...
Have you seen the book... Karoliner by Alf Aberg &Gote Goransson...
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/22435639-karoliner
It’s in Swedish but it has some very useful illustrations.
All the best. Aly
Cheers Aly and thanks for the tip on the book
DeleteGreat looking new regiment, Keith. I'm the same with minor differences/changes in uniforms in such a close time-frame. Go for the cool look, I say.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dean...I will take your very sage advice!
DeleteLovely work
ReplyDeleteThank you Neil
DeleteAs others have said, this is a nice variation on the theme. Great work again Keith.
ReplyDeleteCheers Lawrence, hopefully get another six cranked out tonight!
DeleteAnother fine addition, the double flagging makes for an excellent look.
ReplyDeleteThanks Norm, I usually go with an economy version and only do one flag per unit, but as the Ebor figures are set packs and come with two standard bearers per unit, I have made an exception for these GNW Swedes!
DeleteNice looking stand. These uniforms are quite dashing. 😀
ReplyDeleteThank you Stew, I agree, the white facings and blue leggings make for an attractive uniform combination!
ReplyDeleteAnother great job, this army will look so good it will overawe opponents.
ReplyDeleteHaha...thanks for the glowing complement; however, you have not seen my friend Nicks painting...it really is next level...if you are interested check out the League of Augsburg blog under the post Armigers Armies...you will see what I mean!
DeleteLooking great again Keith. I really like the polkalem/karpus to mix it up a bit.
ReplyDeleteRegards, James
Thanks James, it's nice to have as much variety as possible, isn't it?
DeleteLovely looking stand! Interesting uniform, the variety is always great!
