Reinforcements on different Fronts!

I arrived home at the end of the working week to the welcome surprise of a 1.2kg parcel from Nick Wragg at Ebor - the next six battalions of Great Northern War Swedes have arrived post haste - approximately a fortnight since I ordered them! I am thinking this vastly improved delivery time may be the result of New Zealand opening a so called travel bubble with Australia - as we now have numerous flights per day between the two countries, it may have improved international freight on the "final mile" from Oz to NZ?

In the meantime, I had been painting the Crusader Miniatures "Dragon Portes" figures that arrived from Caliver recently. These are intended to represent the Latvian Rifle Division in my Russian Civil War collection, Very nice figures and they have turned out quite nicely I think

There is an officer figure that I want to add a standard bearer to to make the command base, but I will have to utilise a Copplestone figure that I do not possess at the moment - so he will appear at some future date!

  5. Hi Kieth- Having Airways open from Australia to New Zealand has been a long time in the making. Recently I received a package from the UK and it only took 12 days - remarkable for these strange and stressful times. Regards. KEV.

    1. Thanks Kev,...the advantages of travel bubble have been exaggerated in my opinion...after an initial rush, numbers travelling between Australia na New Zealand have dropped dramatically. My daughter is a flight attendant with Air New Zealand and today she is flying to Sydney on a plane with 200+ capacity...and only 40 passengers.....but if having it in place means my toy soldiers can get here in half the time they have been, long may it continue!

  6. Nice job! Glad the mail is working faster. I never really thought about how being on an island would complicate delivery especially during these pandemic times but of course it would. 😀

    1. Thanks Stew.International freight, including by sea, is in a bit of a state at the moment and being at the arse end of the world with very tight Covid 19 travel restrictions doesn't help. Mind you, we don't have ANY Covid in our community, so it's probably worth it!

  7. Nice work Keith. Good to see Australia to NZ delivery times improving, but i have found the UK to here getting worse. I'm still waiting for a delivery from the week before Christmas and some flags from February.

    1. Thanks Lawrence. Your postal delay is a bit of a worry - the Ebor order came from the UK to me in just over a fortnight this time - which is not too much worse than usual pre Covid freight times.

  8. Nice work on the RCW unit Keith. My last order from the UK arrived in just 10 days. There seems more of a delay with traders who contract out their casting. I have an order with the Perrys, placed March 29, was delayed 3 weeks while they waited for some missing items to arrive from their casting supplier. Its enroute now and hopefully will arrive this week...well I hope so as the lead pile has flattened!

    1. Thanks Mark, I tried a new technique on the faces and I liked the result, but it may be sculptor style specific! You are not the first person I have heard of having issues getting orders from the Perry's in a reasonable time frame - shame, as its probably not their fault (except in as much as they chose who their sub contractors are!)

    2. I suspect that as the lockdown eases in the UK things will improve. I have adjusted to the current problems by shifting from my ‘just in time’ to more a ‘stock on hand’ delivery model. I still have plenty hobby projects to continue with.

A nice looking RCW unit as well... this is period that always gets the wargames butterfly all a flutter.

    All the best. Aly
