Another Warlord Chinese Pulp Contingent

This is my second unit of Warlord Chinese infantry for the current Pulp project. Unfortunately, the bunch of Tsuba figures I got recently only had two standard bearers, although four officers, so this group is "sans drapeau". The uniform is again imaginary although based on images from Osprey volumes on both the Chinese Civil War and the Chinese Warlord Armies.

I do have about the same number again of Tsuba figures remaining but I feel like I have painted enough of these for the meantime, so next up is likely to be either a War of 1812 Canadian Militia unit that has been languishing half painted on my desk for half the year, or perhaps a few more additions to the Border Reivers project.

The full unit, officer leading from the front

Inspiring Leader

Doughty Sergeant

Plucky medic

Taciturn corporal

The privates I have grouped together in batches of three

Each figure is a slightly different pose, which is great for a Pulp unit

Lovely sculpts by Tsuba, they are a joy to paint!

    1. Thanks John - left over from all the GNW Swedes I painted earlier in the year!

  2. More stunning troops. Rotating between periods is always a good way to keep interest high. Border Rievers have my vote!

  3. Nice work there Kieth on the new recruits for the Chinese. I do not know- I tend to only do one project at a time to the exclusion of all else. The biggest problem for me is the slow arrival of things I've ordered- by the time the items have arrived I have tended to loose interest...anyway glad to see your PULP FICTION Project going ahead. Regards. KEV.

    1. Thanks Kev - I know what you mean about waiting for stuff from overseas - I am more or less resigned to not getting the Brigade Games stuff I ordered early in July....

The blue is a nice contrast to your grey unit…

    All the best. Aly

  6. More great pulp figures. Looks like a fun project. It will be fun seeing them on the table together.

Looking forward to seeing the Canadian War of 1812 militia battalion when done.

    1. Thanks Mark. I have a heap of Wo1812 stuff waiting in the queue - a mate donated them to "the group" and I said I would paint them up - but then my own projects took precedence! Might be time to get a couple of these units of Old Glory figures at the front of the queue?

  9. Some lovely characters, your recent painting is giving you a lot of diversity in subject matter and uniform colour, which I feel goes a long way to keeping painting motivation high.

    1. Thanks Norm - funnily enough, the non arrival of the Brigade Games package has actually demotivated me a bit, and painting has not been as productive in the last week or two - but maybe switching to the Reivers and War of 1812 will reinvigorate me!

  10. I’m always suspicious of people who use the phrase ‘joy to paint’. 😀

    1. Haha - its just one of those cliches a lot of us use Stew - I think I recall you are not too keen on the painting side of the hobby, whereas I suspect I have become more of a painter than a gamer - I very rarely find painting a chore, but I have played a few games over the years that I could easily have done without!

  14. The uniforms are evocative of a naval brigade unit—in a good way (very smart looking!)

    1. Thanks Ed, yes I agree, and given the absence of any flag, perhaps they can be used as Japanese sailors in extremis?!

    1. Small but beautifully formed, as they say Mark! I do not think I have ever seen your in the flesh - I am certain I have not played a Russo Japanese War game - hopefully we can rectify that one day soon!
