No, not some images of a New Zealand bush walk, but rather, thanks to the weather accurately reflecting the previously posted forecast, more WIP shots of my current terrain projects, which are nearing completion.
28mm Turks in the trench
Turkish MG trench position
20mm Republican troops occupying a trench
A few minutes later and I have three of these - will probably do a few more - and, perhaps, add some wire to parts of the trench system?
I put sone very watered down red/brown paint over the rather shiny wire, to give the impression of rust.
And of course, having dome some close up images of the "finished" trenches, I had to titillate them a bit more!
Thanks for your visit and hopefully you have time to leave a brief comment. More progress soon, hopefully.
The trenches and barbed wire look amazing Keith. Your SCW tables will be stunning. Can't wait. Keep up the great work.
ReplyDeleteThanks Richard, I am pretty happy with them, to be honest - they have come out rather nicely, haven't they?!
DeleteYour trench system is fab, Keith! I think you need several more feet of them.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jon - as it happens, I laid out "most" of what I have created - and it is enough to have two sides facing each other across my little 3' x 3' card table.....so I think it's probably about enough to be going on with! However, now the concept has been proved, it would not take a lot to expand the system by a few more straight sections!
DeleteThose pot scrubbers work amazingly well for wire - going to remember that one.
ReplyDeleteThanks Greg...like most wargamers, I am always on the lookout for stuff I can buy and repurpose.....these caught my eye about a decade ago I think!
DeleteNice work mate. At least you have found something to do in this miserable weather…at least is stopped raining enough this afternoon so that I could take the outdoing Christmas lights down and pick the blueberries…
ReplyDeleteThanks Mark....yes, the crap weather has been a boon for me...nothing else to do but sit inside all day doing hobby stuff...bliss! 😀
DeleteTrenches look great Keith!
ReplyDeleteBarbed wire is a great repurpose too! Why didn’t I think of using a scourer?
Thanks Dai...the answer to your question is either a) you are not as clever as me or b) you are not as mean as me! 😉
DeleteThe trenches look great and I may steal your idea for barbed wire
ReplyDeleteThanks Scotty and feel free to use the barbed wire idea - I am sure its not original anyway!
DeleteTop notch work Keith. The trenches look even better manned. Beautifully done.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lawrence, they do look pretty good with figures in situ, dont they? I am very pleased with how well these have worked out.
DeleteWell they've come up a treat and a neat idea on using those pan scourers for barbed wire. The weather here still mild and rather wet, preventing us from getting out for some much needed walks in the countryside!
ReplyDeleteThanks Steve. We have certainly done less walking than I was anticipating in the last week or so, but the upside is a very productive time hobby wise ! Back to work tomorrow...grrrr😡
DeleteNice work there Kieth- well done on the Trenches. Cheers. KEV.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kev.
DeleteYour trench system goes from strength to strength, a good save on the scrubs to make wire. It has been wet here as well but we don't have to shovel rain and the oil in the tanks lasts a bit longer. You may get some copycats on your technique. I am curious if you have any other adjustments you made due to your new table?
ReplyDeleteThanks Joe, I am sure rain is less of an issue than six feet of snow, as you indicate! The only other adjustments I have made for the card table was the purchase of a couple of pieces of felt, one green, one yellowy brown, to use as base clothes.
DeleteSo you had a super cheap wire scrubber just lying around for years? You must not throw anything away. My wife would appreciate that. She’s always trying to keep things as they might be useful one day and I’m always throwing things away behind her back.
ReplyDeleteTrenches are coming out A-OK. I feel like it’s gonna be like hedges or fences where you’ll want more than you realize. 😀
Are you implying I have some kind of hoarding issue Stew?! I do tend to hang onto a lot of bits n pieces in my wargaming life, and fortunately, my wife just ignores it (or is unaware how much I have hidden away). She is more like you in other areas of the house, but sometimes it comes back to bite her, as she suddenly realises we need/have a use for something she just threw out!
DeleteLooking good Keith…
ReplyDeleteI think barbed wire is probably one of the more enjoyable things you can do with a pan scourer …
All the best. Aly
Thanks Aly - yes you are correct - I do recall the middle scourer (of the three pack) was located and used a couple of years back for a "start of summer" BBQ cleaning session - that wasn't much fun at all really!
DeleteGreat looking trenches Keith and the barbed wire idea is fantastic. I have always gone with the rolled up fuse wire but your method looks much better.
ReplyDeleteCheers Ben - in fact, found at the same time as the last pan scourer WAS a length of very narrow fuse wire, I had put to one side for this very purpose - but then I decided the scourer version was superior!
DeleteVery effective trench works Keith, did you make enough To get right across the table ?. The bored wire is an interesting option I may look out for one of those , previously I have bought the model stuff which works quite well.
ReplyDeleteThanks Matt...I have more than enough for my little 3 X 3 table, but not quite enough for Barry's 6 X 18 one!
DeleteI am sure the purpose made model barbed wire is far superior to anything else, I am just always othe look out for a cheaper option!
Great work on these, Keith!
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot Peter
DeleteOutstanding work Keith!
ReplyDeleteCheers Bill, appreciate your comments!
DeletePan scrubbers for razor wire is brilliant! I am stealing this idea with all haste :) looking good, sir!
ReplyDeleteLol...pleased to be of assistance Steve!
