Naturally enough, with my recent new arrivals, I pushed "a shiny thing" to the front of the painting queue - so here are the FIVE (?) Musketeers by Brigade Games.
I will have to do some "research" and decide which figure is which character from the story...
I know who D'Artagnan was, but my recollections of the others are sketchy!
One was a Ladys Man (philanderer!) and another a bit of a dandy, if memory serves.
But I will need to figure out the personalities before assigning a name to the figures!
I have also started work on the Cardinals Guard - but I need some help from my readers! Which of the two cinematic versions of the Guards uniforms do you prefer?
Version One - Black with Red Trim
Version Two - predominantly Red.
To help you out, I have handily painted up one of each in my version of the above - which do you prefer - OR - do you think I could get away with having BOTH uniforms on the table, and call one the Archbishop of Paris's Guard, or something like that?
Answers on an SAE to "Cardinals Guard Question, PO Box 1299, South Auckland Mail Centre" and a chocolate fish will go to the best reply received!
Thanks for dropping in and please, do leave your thoughts on the guard's uniform question!
Nicely done Keith straight out of the box too. In terms of colour I think red is slightly more striking 👍
ReplyDeleteThanks Matt - looks like you and Ray are agreed on red so 2-0 so far!
DeleteGreat painting Keith! The figures look excellent. I'd go with the red, version 2, the black looks far too Hollllywoood!
ReplyDeleteI do hope the chocolate fish doesn't taste like fish?!?
Ok thanks Ray - and no, chocolate fish just has pink marshmallow inside - tastes great!
DeleteFine painting there Keith:). As for the colours, to be honest I like both, which is of course no help to you! The idea of having both options on the table appeals to me as it gives you variety visually for scenarios etc. The mainly black has a slightly Cardinal Richelieu look to it that would suit the 'bad guys', should they be needed for a game. As for the 'prize', I'll pass as I've never been a fan of marshmallow!
ReplyDeleteThanks Steve...seems like the majority prefer the red...I might have to do both....lol
DeleteStraight from the shipping box to table. I like the way you work! I like both guard uniforms but the red has more ‘pop’ on the table. The red trim gets lost in the black, I think. Like Steve, the black looks more suitable for a sinister faction.
ReplyDeleteYOU must be a sinister faction Jon, judging by the number of comments that end up in the Spam file!
DeleteThanks for the comment as always and basically everyone agrees that they prefer the red uniform!
Bwahaha…
DeleteNice job and nice poses. I would go with red, the black looks a little contrived.
ReplyDeleteGlad you like them Norm and so far you seem to be with the popular opinion....
DeleteI am so pleased it is not just me that promotes all things shiny to the top of the queue. Love this, was going to say that I prefer the darker, meaner looking Cardinal's guard, but your red version looks the business to me.
ReplyDeleteThanks Michael, I think we all do the shiny thing occasionally! I agree, I did quite like the black with red trim too...but the red is cool as well!
DeleteOH! those are even more nice after the paint job. Great job. I really like those. I don't remember much of the 3 musketeers either other than their names. I don't think I finished the book now that I think about it.
ReplyDeleteanyway, the predominantly red uniform is HANDS DOWN the best. The ones in black just looks like someone stated "we'll dress the bad guys in black right? all bad guys wear black."
Haha....I find figures generally are improved by the painting process, Steve....and you are on the side of the angels in the voting too, it seems!
DeleteSuper painting Keith. It has to be the red for me. The black looks like a modern Hollywood or Netflix adaptation that is trying to be "cool" in appeal... sorry.
ReplyDeleteLol...yes it seems like the red is more traditional...ie it's in the older Hollywood versions! Seems like everyone agrees with you Richard!
DeleteNicely done Keith. I'd go for red for the Cardinal's guard
ReplyDeleteThanks Scotty.....this voting pattern is beginning to feel a bit like a Trump Primary.....
DeleteAnother vote for red for the Cardinal's Guard. Lovely work Keith. Your musketeer looks terrific.
ReplyDeleteThank you Lawrence....the result of voting so far is pretty decisive!
DeleteI still think of the version with Oliver Read as Porthos. Andnot forgetting Raquel Welch as Constance! That to me is the definitive Musketeer "franchise".
ReplyDeleteAnyway, another vote for red. After all it's not called Cardinal Red for nothing (and why Woking FC are "the Cards" - not because they are a bunch of Jokers).
Thanks Chris, must be our age, I think the same re Oli and Co! ( I did quite enjoy the more recent BBC version too, though....and Mila Jovovich as MLady de Winter gave a peerless performance. Lol !)
DeleteNice way to get mention of an obscure English football team onto a wargaming blog too, BTW!
Both look great Keith but I lean towards the red version. They are wearing a black hat so identifiable as the bad guys. 😁
ReplyDeleteThanks Ben although I am not sure the Black Hat equals Baddie transfers into the 17th and 18th centuries...just about EVERYONE wears a black hat, often with three corners!
DeleteHmm. Once more into the SPAM folder?
ReplyDeleteI will have a look, Jon - I only just cleared a couple of comments out of there yesterday - very strange!
DeleteI like both to be honest but if it was me I would go with the red one as it looks more correct, if you know what I mean,! but I like your idea of doing both and that would be the best of both worlds! Your good guys look great as well, nice work all round.
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot Donnie - given I do quite like both the red and black options, I might have to go with the idea of doing both!
DeleteOh, fantastic work! Love Musketeers and Cardinal's Guard!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments as always Michal!
DeleteNice work there on the figures- you sure have a diverse interest Kieth.
ReplyDeleteThat I do Kev...far too diverse, probably, but it keeps me out of trouble
DeleteVery nice indeed Keith…
ReplyDeleteYeah definitely red…
But you could always have a couple of guys in black and use them as some fiendish assassination squad….
All the best. Aly
I like that idea a lot Aly...perhaps they are agents of....dun da dun dun daaaa......The Spanish Inquisition!
DeleteBecause on one expects the Spanish Inquisition!
DeleteExactly Mark!
DeleteGreat looking musketeers, Keith. Nicely painted and full of character.
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot Dean!
