More 3D Printed Blitzkrieg Vehicles

These rolled off the painting desk a few days ago, but its only just time to post them now!

First up, one of the two Opel Blitz trucks - above, the underside, showing the incredible amount of (to my mind unnecessary) detail that has been included in the 3D print.

Followed by several different angles of the completed model.

And with the seated passengers added.

The sun was in the wrong place for the photo above, but I left it in, nonetheless.

Secondly, it is the SdKfz 222 armoured car.

Or is that Leutnant Grueber's "Little Tank"?!

The 222 with its near cousin the 221!

Thats it for tonight - you may not hear from me for a few days as I will be away at our annual "Strategic Planning" for work, weds to Friday this week.

  2. These are both great looking models. You dirtied up the truck perfectly.

    1. Thanks Jon, the weathering is just successive layers of brown, ochre and grey dry brushing but I am pleased with the results 😀

  3. Firstly, the 222 looks best model that I have seen done on that vehicle, secondly the underneath of the truck!!!! If nothing else it just oozes designer credibility and does set a benchmark in terms of expecting vehicles to be ‘correct’.

    1. Thanks Norm, the detail on many of the 3d prints is incredible! I even wondered if it was possible to assemble a 1/35 scale truck model, scan it somehow then reproduce it as an STL file in a smaller scale...could be copyright issues with that of course, but I am guessing STL file creation is pretty unregulated....

  4. Cracking work there Keith, but agree that the detail under the truck does seem OTT for a wargames model. The 222 is probably my all time favourite armoured car:).

  6. These are really good! Can't get over that detail on the underside.

  7. When that truck gets hit you will have a lot of satisfaction turning it over to expose the underside. Great work on them both, and the mud effects look great.

  8. Those are very nice - just working on some seated fellows for a German truck myself. Kind of agree about the underside :-)

    1. Cheers Stu....I am thinking I might need some more seated guys. I do think the detail on the underside of the truck is probably unnecessary for wargaming purposes....

  9. maybe the extra details underneath are for when it blows up and flips over?

  10. Fantastic paint jobs! I have both an Opel Blitz an a 222 in 1/43 - I think Eaglemoss or Atlas? They have the same kind of detail but are extremely delicate for gaming. How well do these 3d prints stand up to repeated handling?

    1. Thanks John...as to handling, time will tell, but I managed to break a couple of small, fragile parts during the painting process....

  11. Great looking stuff. 3d printing is wild sometimes....the digital modellers might do all the details. And it's more work to try and remove them than just print it out and cut off what doesn't print properly.

That fully loaded opal blitz just screams for an ambush mission in my mind.

    1. Thanks Dave...yes. the 3d printing really is next level in some cases! As to missions, these models can be used for everything from full scale Blitzkrieg games on 18 x 6 table to 3 x 3 table skirmish level....and maybe even Pulp!

  13. Some great looking vehicles!

That is a lot of detail for the underbits. Are they meant for wargaming or for modelling?

    1. Hi Tim...the models are sold for wargaming but I think the detail is to modeling standard, to be honest!
