This is really just another large number of images - 3 from most games and 4 from each of the Sunday all-day games played at Barrys. Given that the latter often have 60-80 images in the relevant AAR, I thought 4 was pretty conservative, but as I played over 30 games last year (a fair bit down from 2023), that still means you are having around 100 pictures inflicted on you!
EDIT for some reason. all the images are small and non-clickable - and as there are so many, I really can't be bothered redoing the whole lot - sorry!
First game of the year was a "dungeon crawler" at Andrews
In the same session, we had a more modern twist on the same theme!
Next was a boardgame with figures at mate Julians place
Then, I had a couple of solo games in my Ballade of Sweet Lady Mary Bell Border Revers "campaign" - I must get back to that one day.....!
Game 2
Next, the first of the all-day Sunday games a Barrys was an initial (and so far, only) run out for my new 28mm German Blitzkrieg collection
Another Friday night boardgame with figures at Julians - this one is Blood Rage and is based on the Norse mythology around Ragnarok
Next time, it was Napoleonic Sharpe Practice at Julians
And a week later again - with some cavalry this time......
Then, it was back to Barrys for a Sunday session, this time, the 1920 Russo-Polish war
Followed by more of the same on a Friday at Jules place!
And back to Barrys for a Pulp/1920's Colonial game.
Then it's another all-day game at Barrys - this time AWI.
We must be up to June now, as I remember doing this small solo D Day Game on or about 6 June, the 80th anniversary of the greatest seaborne invasion of all time.
And back to Barrys yet again, this time for a large-scale Napoleonic bash.
Another solo game, featuring some of the recently painted AWI militia in the Light Infantry assault against the rail fence at the commencement of the Battle of Bunker Hill (I think this may have been around the anniversary of the actual battle, too)
Barrys for the Imjin War between Japanese Samurai and the defending Koreans
Part Two of the Battle of Bunker Hill solo - I never actually did Part Three, the final assault that took the American Redoubt
Must be July or August - Julian was back from his extended trip to Europe, and we played another Russo-Polish War game on a Friday evening.
Sunday at Barrys and a 15mm WW2 desert game pitting NZ Div against the Italians
A Sunday game at Julians for a change - To the Strongest Reconquista action
Friday Sharpes Practice back in the Napoleonic era
And another game of Zombicide.
ACW at Barrys - this one is for Stew!
Then Iron Cross using 20mm WW2 figures back at Julians
Another Pulp/Colonial type all-dayer at Barrys
Russo-Polish War again at Julians place
And then yet more Zombicide!
Julians Birthday Game - a Sunday with very nice lunch provided - and a great ECW game using For King and Parliament
Sunday at Barrys for late war WW2 - 15mm Soviets v Germans
My last "away" game of the year, a few weeks ago at Julians - and it was Sharpe Practice once again!
My final two games were solo affairs, play testing OHW ancient rules with my new 10mm Cromarty Forge figures
And the same scenario but giving my amended version of Andrews ASN rules a try out.
And that was it in terms of games played in 2024. I do have a half-formed plan to get in A LOT more solo games in 2025 - I may even call it "Wargame Wednesday" and try to play a small solo game every week - we shall see how that pans out though!
In the meantime, thanks as always for your visit and particularly to all those who take the time to leave a comment, and I look forward to interacting with you all via my blog in the coming year.
Some great looking games you've participated in.
ReplyDeleteThanks Scotty, I was quite surprised by the variety, to be honest, once I went through and reviewed everything!
DeleteQuite a photo tour of your 2024 gaming activities. How many games saw the table in the year and can you pick a favorite?
ReplyDeleteHi Jon, yes, I did count them...33 in total. As to a favourite, possibly one or other of the Pulp/Colonial games?
DeleteDefinitely worth the time and effort to play so many fine games with friends. Do you think more of anything particular in genre this coming year?
ReplyDeleteThanks Jie....it is certainly no effort to play a wargame, although motivating myself to do solo games is sometimes a challenge!
DeleteAs far as more of a genre for 2025...hopefully lots of 10mm Ancients!
Fantastic looking games!
ReplyDeleteThank you Michal!
DeleteA plethora of cracking pictures Keith, some really good looking games there.
ReplyDeleteCheers Donnie, there were certainly some very good games amongst the bunch.
DeleteQuite a range of good looking games Keith.
ReplyDeleteThank Richard, I am pleased you think so 😀
DeleteA great roundup and there is certainly a lot of gaming variety in that lot Keith.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lawrence! I would like to be hitting around the 50 to 60 per annum mark, so it equated to a game per week....let's see how I go in '25!
DeleteWell I'd say 30 games is pretty good going Keith and nice to look back on the great variety of periods played! I always hope to get about 2 games in a month on average, with Summer being a low point for obvious reasons. I do hope you get to play more solo games this year. I too tried a Wargames Wednesday but it sadly soon fell by the wayside:(. Maybe I should try to resurrect it his year...
ReplyDeleteThanks for the encouraging words, Steve, and yes, now you have a dedicated gaming space, a routine weekly game should be more feasible? 👍 Try giving it a go!
DeleteLots of varied games here Kieth- you have a diverse interest. KEV.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kev - many of the game periods are "dictated" by others (the host, usually!) but I am happy to play more or less any genre!
DeleteWhen you lay it out thus, it does come across very much like a "journey" in a literal sense. Nice trip!
ReplyDeleteThanks Ed - looking forward to continuing my journey in the coming year!
DeleteOutstanding looking games. Especially enjoyed the Russo Polish War games. In fact they got be going to the library and reading up on the subject. Fascinating!
ReplyDeleteThanks Mark! I am not sure why Julian got so enthusiastic about this conflict...but he did it at just the right time, as most of his figures came from the Russian manufacturer STL, and I doubt it would be very easy to buy toy soldiers from Russia at the moment! As it was, these arrived around about the time that the current unpleasantness kicked off, and via quite a circuitous route, involving Julian's daughter who lives in the UK!
DeleteNice roll up of the past year's games, Keith. I particularly liked the Imjin War game - very inspirational as I plan to host a game from the war at our annual con in a few month.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dean, the armies in that game were stunning but I can't take any credit, our mates Mark and Chris collected the armies, Mark all the Samurai and Chris all the Koreans. They originally did it in secret, with the intention of putting on the game at our annual week long wargaming trip to Lake Tarawera...unfortunately, that was in 2019, and since Covid, and our host John having a succession of serious health issues, we have never made it back to Tarawera, and possibly never will, again 😔
DeleteFantastic figures though, and Mark also made some superb custom terrain pieces.
