.....and ANOTHER War of 1812 unit rolls off the production line.....

That's really all there is to say - I have not modelled specific units - I was going to do a couple in "non standard" uniform such as black or buff coloured jackets - but in the end, I have not bothered. The unit I have just started (the next one after the one below) has a slight variation in that they are wearing the winter uniform of blue trousers. After that, I have about two more units of enlisted men but no officers.

Looking through the box of donated figures from Julian, I have realised that he has included a number of Front Rank drummers (Brits painted as Yanks) which I can use, and there are two ensigns, wearing cocked hats that I think I can also press into service - but no sword carrying members of the officer class - BUGGER! I might put out an appeal to my local gaming buddies and see if anyone has a spare British Napoleonic officer or three that I can co opt into the American army...

Anyway, on to the pics....

Hope you have enjoyed these and they are not to "samey" - which they probably are, seeing as its the same figures painted the same way - at least the next will be slightly different, with there all blue uniform making them resemble French Legere!

  1. I certainly enjoyed looking at them Keith and they don't look too 'samey' to me at all:)

  2. Nicely looking unit! I believe they should look “samey” unless thes won‘t wear uniform. Figures have slightly different poses and irregular order so the whole unit looks lively, which I like very much. Good job!

  4. Nice figures! I'd love to see your 1812 Collection out on the table fighting a battle when it's all done.

    1. Thanks John. It might be a while yet till we get to that stage but I did think I might do a mini parade of the recent additions when they are all finished.

  5. So nicely done! Along with the other US battalions in you collection, there will be some great AAR's coming.

  6. Repeatedly painting ‘samey’ units is how large armies are created. I like ‘em!

    1. That's very true Jon - the recent Swedish project, for example!

  7. Great looking unit! On figure pricing I think I'm tighter than you! Over here Perry metal cavalry works out the same as Old Glory nowadays but as a hobby there's plenty that are more expensive!

    1. Thanks Iain. My affinity with OG is based on experience about 8-10 years ago - I have couple of collections utilising their figures, from a time when I regularly subscribed to their Army Card. At the time 30 inf or 10 Cav were US$30 a bag - with the army card, that dropped US$18 per bag. I used to do two or three orders a year at around $300 worth - OG would put it in a USPS carton that cost around $50 I think, so even landed in NZ, the infantry were around NZ$1 - 50p each. It would not be the same today - USPS rates have gone up dramatically for a start - however, they are still a good deal, particularly with the Army Card 40% discount. Perry figures are quite competitively priced though, particularly given they are at the upper end of the quality scale.

  9. Nothing wrong with a bunch of the same units rolling off the production line, and I enjoy looking at them as much as the more unique units. Great job Keith.

    1. Thanks Lawrence! Its a crap weekend here in Auckland - the whole country has steady rain today actually - so perfect painting weather and the first half of the next unit are nearing completion - just on a break - by law, I have to stop for ten minutes every four hours!

  10. Another nice unit Keith…

Nothing wrong with units looking the same…it unites the look of army…and it make painting a bit more straight forward…

    All the best. Aly

    1. Well yes, the more I think about it, the more stupid my original comment seems - uniforms and uniformity have a certain logic! I think what I was trying to allude to was the lack of variety in my production recently - at least the GNW Swedes had different flags, different facing colours and in some instances, different headgear!

  11. Looking great! As others have said; armies that had a standard uniform should basically look the same. Plus it makes them easier to crank out. Which is why I love painting ACW, especially the Union.
The samey look will convey a nice unity when the units take the field. 😀

    1. I refer my honourable friend to my previous answer! I must admit, if I had to choose between 1812 Brits and 1812 Yanks to paint, I prefer the latter!

  13. Lovely Keith. The officer does not look impressed with the private at the end of the line singing "you had a good time with your left..."!

  14. Another great addition and the slight variants work well and not to samey.
