Another "Jelly and Peanut Butter" Post!

If you don't understand the reference, please head over to my blog buddy Stews fantastically named "Terrible Loss of Lead and Wealth" blog here....A Terrible Loss of Lead and Wealth : The 5 Year Bump (tllw.blogspot.com) and all will be explained. PLEASE leave a comment, so Stew knows you have dropped by - he is in desperate need of more hobby affirmation! (BTW, being a Yank, I suspect Stew means "jam" when he says "jelly"...!)

Stew - this is what I officially call "a bump" - ie , a fully solicited recommendation for my readers to visit your blog - mission accomplished! (whether they come for a nosy is up to them!)

Right. here is my ACTUAL post for this evening - a few more completed Requetes Miltia and some new 20mm SCW arrivals. Let's show them in reverse order - the arrivals first!

Small package from Irregular Miniatures in the UK

The contents, 8 Republican cavalry plus a few bits n pieces of infantry. Initial impressions are pretty good - the horses were a bit rough and needed a lot of cleaning up but have turned out fine. The only problem really is, the range has a very limited number of poses, so I bought three Civil Guards, for example - because three figure variations is all there are I think - and one of those is an officer! Same with the Assaltos - five poses in total, I think. Now I have seen them "in the flesh", a few more may be ordered, but I have been spoiled by the Minairons range, having groups of 15-18 infantry, every one an individual. Unfortunately, they don't make Civil Guards or Assault Guards....

And latest additions exiting the painting booth - six more Requetes Militiamen - individual pics of each figure are below.

I don't know if it is the combination of the British Uniform khaki and the red berets, but I am really enjoying painting this unit. I may have a bit of a soft spot for them when it comes game time, even though they are technically "on the wrong side" in my opinion!

Thats it for tonight. Another miserable wet and windy day/evening here in Auckland, but I am sure some of you would happily swap at the moment! Last time I was back in the UK, it hit 34c one day, and that was hot enough. We rarely get as high as 30 deg here in mid-summer  - the hottest day in Auckland in 137 years was apparently in 2009 when it reached a measly 32.4c. Take care and keep out of the sun all you lily white skinned Poms! :)

  1. I think the Requetes really do pop with their red berets, as otherwise all the units can look a bit dull, which is one of the downsides of most 20thC uniforms. Certainly they will look good when on the table.

Well we had record breaking temps here, with 40.3C recorded and around 30 places where it was over 40C. In Bristol we hit just over 35C and when you went outside from the 'cool' of the house the heat slapped you in the face. Now it is a chilly 26C today;).

    1. LOL - the 34c we had was the day we left Bristol for the Costwold Villages Steve, and ended up that evening in Nottingham - still 21c at 1am in the latter - it was the hottest UK day on record for a while at the time - 2015/16 I think. I note that even in the current climate emergency, my erstwhile stomping ground in the environs of Aberdeen only made it to about 18c!

  2. For pose animation etc my faves the guy with the beard, but to be honest they’re all pretty spiffy. I also read Stews amusing post yesterday though I really don’t understand the American prédilection for the jam and peanut butter thing. It sounds truly horrible. Don’t knock it till you’ve tried it I suppose. That was a very definite bump for his blog that you did there…he owes you a beer mate.

    1. Cheers JBM...I totally agree about the culinary "delight" referred to ...I rarely eat jamnowadays, and peanut butter I prefer neat, by the spoonful, straight from the jar! Of course, plenty of people would think that was just as strange...my wife now hides the jar so I can't eat ten or twenty spoons full in a evening, after everyone else has retired to bed! 😀

  3. Excellent painting rross! Figures look great. And a great Bump for Stew. I am sure he will appreciate it.
While 40c is considered warm here in Oz, having a swimming pool to jump into certainly makes it easier to deal with.
I feel for the poor poms not used to the heat and not having any air con to make it easier. Very difficult for the older folk and I hope it goes back to normal for them soon!

    1. Thanks Ben, I think 34c may be the hottest temp I have experienced...ironic it should have been in the UK rather than NZ!

  4. Nice work as usual Keith. Forty degrees here in Australia is never fun, but at least we are prepared for it and my electricity bill over summer can attest to that. Terrible to see those houses on fire in the UK.

    1. Thanks Lawtence. Yes, I saw a list of major fires in London on a news site...around ten that had approx eight to twelve engines at each, with hundreds of firemen deployed...scared stuff.

  5. The requetes are a favorite of mine in my 28mm force and yours certainly look great as well. Your "bump" got your friend a new follower. Five years is notable, especially if he keeps going.

  6. Stew will be pleased to see your effort here, Keith. Looks like three new Followers already. He may be doing joyous backflips in his yard.

The red berets make your Requetes pop. Nice work! When I first saw the package, I was half expecting it to be the long, lost Brigade Games order.

    1. Thanks Jon, I agree about the red headwear! The Brigade order took approx eight days to depart the west coast USPS facility and is currently "in transit to the destination" . It's only been about a week since its last scan, so I am not concerned....yet!

    2. I note Stew has not commented HERE yet - too busy dealing with all the extra attention we have garnered for him - 48 comments and counting when I was last there - I have been lucky to hit 40 once or twice - AND I have been blogging longer than him - maybe he needs to give ME a bump!

    3. That’s gratitude…

Keith, you get plenty of comments. We could try driving your numbers up.

    4. It’s true! Typically I respond to comments on my blog before I write on other peoples as I want to be polite to those that take the time. But it’s been a bah-nanas on my blog (thanks to good blogging buddies like you and Jon) and this seems like special case. 😀

  7. There's a reason most armies have at least one unit in red berets: in the post-Khaki era, they remain one of the few fashion forward items of kit. These fellows are no exception (we'll overlook their worldview for now).

  8. Nice work on the Requetes. Irregular miniatures do have a few gems in their various ranges. Always worth a look

  10. Bloody hell Keith, don't you ever tire of these boring blog posts exhibiting your crappy painting?!

I never tire of reading/looking at them. Top job as ever.

  11. Very nice Keith…
That bit of colour with khaki always works well…
With your new arrivals this is turning into a nice sized collection…
I don’t mind Peanut Butter and Jelly (Jam) posts… although it tend to think of them more as a painting diary.
As for the sandwiches… nope!… Jam on its own for me 😁

    All the best. Aly

You sir, are an officer and a gentleman and I enjoy our online friendship. 😀

On a serious note; there is nothing wrong with look it posts / pb&j or whatever you people eat on the other side of the world. I do them all the time. They’re the most fun on the internet. 😀

    1. You are more than welcome Stew....I just did a quick visit and you are over 80...amazing. You being a trick cyclist (Cockney rhyming slang for psychiatrist) must be interested in the psychology of this reaction to your plea for support.....?? Oddly, as I have mentioned on Mr Freiburgs blog, he seems to be at an all time low number of comments...despite the fact that every second visitor to your blog gives him credit for inspiring their visit....very odd!
