Saw these pop up on Trade Me - our local NZ version of eBay - and bid for them. Not the greatest ever 3D prints (guessing they are from a home printer) but for NZ$34 (£16) for four of them, they are fine to bulk out my Blitzkrieg transport - and may well come in handy for Pulp games too! Bonus was the seller was in the same town as me, so met up with him and saved $15 quoted courier fee - which I know for a local ticket would cost about half that!
This is what they looked like when purchased.
And this is them now, spray painted Feldgrau for Blitzkrieg service!
As you can see above, a bit rough and ready and nothing like the fine detail of the JJG prints, but then, I got four for around the price of one (including postage), so I am happy with the deal!
Thursday was a hard day for me - had to get up about 430am and pick up my GM Devon and drive all the way into Aukland CBD....
0615 saw 15 of us (12 customers and three of us) heading out onto the Hauraki Gulf for a day's fishing!
Departing downtown Auckland
Dawn over the gulf
Heading off towards the mussel farm off the Coromandel coast by Thames
A perfect day - nice and sunny but not too hot and flat calm seas!
The skipper had some strict rules - no alcohol till after 0900!
Catch of the day - a 60cm snapper!
We had 100 fish to split between 14 of us - our GM was off to Queenstown for the weekend so said he would not take any!
Telling some fishy tales about the ones that got away!
Catching up on emails on the two-hour trip back to the harbour!
Rangitoto Island - a dormant (not extinct!) volcano a couple of km off the Auckland CBD.
Passing the Devonport Navy base on our starboard side!
Auckland CBD in daylight.
Auckland Harbour Bridge (6 lanes) as we turn back into the Z pier around 1500.
Paid a professional filleter on the dockside $3 per fish to prepare the fillets - incredible watching him as he literally did each fish in the time it has taken me to type this sentence, steel gloves like a butcher, a razor-sharp filleting knife and 40 years' experience is all it takes!
I have a game report from Friday evening to post too, plus off to another tomorrow, so I am feeling a bit like Jon or Matt at the moment!
Thanks for you visit and any comments you leave.
You have a hard life, Keith. Snapper for dinner!
ReplyDeleteI still have a game report from TUESDAY to write plus games on Saturday and Monday.
Yes - we all have our own particular crosses to bear, Jon! Had one lot of snapper for dinner Thursday, gave 4 fillets to my son and we still have two more meals worth in our freezer!
DeleteThose trucks are a great bargain and look perfectly fine to me.
ReplyDeleteYou should see them now, Scotty - fastest turnaround ever - bought at 9am, sprayed them about 11am and painted them this afternoon - all done, including decals on the doors, by 4pm same day! At "gaming distance", they look as good as any of the others to me.
DeleteI think you did well on the vehicles and it must be a nice change not to have to pay overseas postage.
ReplyDeleteI think it is difficult to judge the look of our wargame stuff through the lens of a camera, as modern digital pictures cruelly exposes models to greater scrutiny than our poor old eyes will ever see on the table.
Thanks Norm and very good points, too! The original finish on these IS pretty rough and whoever first had them, obviously did not spend a lot of time cleaning them up - and to be honest, neither did I!
DeleteNotwithstanding that, I am pretty happy with the results I achieved from a couple of hours work today!
Nice purchase at a very good price, they look fine and should be fine on the table. A good days fishing too by the look of it, nice fish, I find fishing very therapeutic but don't do enough of it.
ReplyDeleteThanks Donnie - I rarely go fishing, it's not really my thing. If I do it via work or someone with a boat invites me, I will go, but if neither of those things happen, I would not make any effort to go out. It is nice to get a decent haul of fresh fish to eat, though!
DeleteA nice catch both in terms of fish and trucks.
ReplyDeleteThanks Peter, and I agree! The trucks have actually come up quite nicely with only a couple of hours work today!
DeleteGood looking transport truck Keith, as you say rough but they can sit in the background. Fishing, beer and sunshine doesn’t look much like work to me !
ReplyDeleteThanks Matt, they look quite good now .... post soon!
DeleteLife is very tough in NZ! No drinking until 9am!!!! 😂
ReplyDeleteGreat looking trucks and a bargain at that price.
Yeah I know Ben...PC gone mad, we live in a Nanny State!
DeleteAwesome catch sir!
ReplyDeleteThanks Michal...the fish taste good, too!
DeleteNice find on the trucks front and another long hard day in the office for sure;)! Yet again SWMBO would drool at that all those fresh fish and what she could do with them:).
ReplyDeleteYeah, can't wait to retire and get away from all this pressure, Steve!
DeleteGreat catches - on both land and sea, Keith! The vehicles look good, but the fresh seafood even better!
ReplyDeleteThanks Dean, both catches were great indeed 👍
DeleteReally a banner set of acquisitions. The vehicles will be useful and the fish look to be delicious.
ReplyDeleteThanks Joe...the rough and ready painted up reasonably well...and yep, fish tasted 😋 😀 👌
DeleteSome nice inexpensive additions to the Wehrmacht Kieth.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic trip… The fish looked tasty.
All the best. Aly
Cheers Aly!
Deletehard day at work indeed. 😁
ReplyDeleteOne of the toughest this year, Stew!
