I am 95% of the way through my first batch of Perry 8th Army Figures but they wont be ready to photograph for a day or two yet, so in the meantime, here are three figures I have completed recently.
First up is a command base of female Bolsheviks, both being converted Copplestone figures with resin heads added. The officer has a head from Anvil Industries in the UK and the standard bearer has a winter head by Victoria Miniatures - who I think are based in Vic, Australia, but were shipped from some God forsaken place like Utah or Wyoming!
I have plenty more heads but want to wait for the Brigade Games Bolsheviks (ordered early July, shipped early August and have still not turned up here. 😒) to see which figures they suit best.....
The second figure was painted a few weeks ago - around the same time as the other two Hasslefree figures, but I only finished off her basing recently. Not sure what she will be used for, maybe one of the characters for the French, Spanish or Italian contingents in the Great Pulp Adventure Project!
Finally. on the subject of heads, conversions and the Pulp Project, I Googled 28mm Japanese Female Heads and found these, which I am likely to buy and use for both Chinese and Japanese characters!
The same company does European and African male and female heads of equal quality, if anyone has a need for such things.
Quite nice the figures painted. Rather interesting, your Pulp project. Those swapping heads are quite good, thanks for pointing out. BTW, Utah has the Arches National Monument, Wyoming incldes portions of Yellowstone National Park. If they have wargames suppliers (and I know they do) they rate rather high on good places to visit. Been to both, worth the trip. :-)
ReplyDeleteHahaha..I knew I would get a bite if I slagged of a mid Western state Joe - I have a feeling it was Utah but I cant be bothered going back and finding the freight tracking to make sure.... I doubt I will ever make it to the US, let alone Utah! The good thing about the Pulp Project is the small; scale - the heads are relatively expensive - almost the same as a full figure - but I only need a few. If I wanted to convert a whole 200 or 300 figure army, it would be too expensive and I wouldnt bother!
DeleteThose conversions have worked at treat! I'm certainly looking forward to the 8th Army figures too:)
ReplyDeleteThanks Steve - I think the Desert Rats have come up pretty well too - should have them ready for public show soon!
DeleteNot sure what genre you’ll use the girl for, but if she’s got a sister could you hook a brother up?
ReplyDeleteLOL - I will take that as a complement of my painting JBM - I think she has scrubbed up pretty well - the Hasslefree sculpts really are very nice but the fine detail is a bit harder to pick out than the likes of the Bob Murch Pulp range, which are more like Mark Copplestone in style.
DeleteI'm intrigued by your PULP project- should be some interesting scenarios!
ReplyDeleteWell yes - if it actually gets that far John! I am having fun painting them but I have several collections that have never put in an appearance on any actual battle field!
DeleteHi KIETH,
ReplyDeleteNice work on the Conversions- excellently painted. Hope your order from the States turns up soon- I received a package yesterday from England and it only took 16 days which is very good considering the Pandemic. Stay well and safe there in NZ. Cheers. KEV.
Thanks Kev - yes seems to be the USPS that is particularly slow - when I ordered the various heads for conversion, the two from the UK got here in ten days but the one from the US was more like three or four weeks...
DeleteUtah and Wyoming, God forsaken? You owe yourself a visit! I like your work on this batch of figures but the polka dot dress is especially impressive.
ReplyDeleteIt would be nice to visit but unfortunately I think its very unlikely - if I ever do get to the US, it will be FLA to see my sister and family - and even thats pretty doubtful!
DeleteWonderful female characters, Keith. Love the polka dot dress.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dean, I wanted to experiment with something other than a single colour dress! Its supposed to have a Thirties feel to it although I dont think the actual design is very Thirty ish....
DeleteLovely looking women characters! The site with heads looks very interesting, I hope it will fulfill all your requirements for the pulp project.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dmitry - I had a look at the site where your recent female figures came from - some lovely stuff there
DeleteNice work Keith. I do like the heads, I'll look those up, they may come in handy for the Haitian Rebellion?
ReplyDeleteCheers Ray - yes, very much so I would say - lop the head off any early Napoleonic figure and replace it with an African one...
DeleteThat was my thought too Ray. Thanks for posting Keith looks like several heads will be in the post.
DeleteCheers
Stu
You are most welcome guys but I should caution you, they dont end up being very cost effective - $16 for ten is fine but then they add tax and then postage at quite a high amount....but my obsession has over ridden all these considerations and they should be en route soon!
DeleteGreat work Keith. The polka dot dress is definitely my favourite as well. Very colourful.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lawrence - working with the Hasslefree sculpts really helps, they are great little figures
DeleteMiniatures looking great now!
ReplyDeleteVery, very good work!
Thank you Michal, coming from you, that is a real compliment
DeleteYou are building up a nice collection of characters, do you find a significant size difference between the manufacturers on these sort of things?
ReplyDeleteThanks Norm and yes, the Hasslefree figures for example are much slighter than the Copplestone or Pulp Miniatures. The "standard" soldiers by Tsuba and Perry are also significantly smaller than the latter two ranges - who I guess you could describe as "heroic" scale - ie 30mm pretending to be 28mm! I think you can probably see on the standard bearer that the head was only just big enough for the body - the hands look a bit big and manly for the face...but thats only an issue with a close up photo, no one will notice when they are on the table!
DeleteLovely additions to your pulp collection Keith…
ReplyDeleteI particularly like the young lady in the polka dot dress…
All the best. Aly
Thanks Aly, yes, that young lass seems to be a crowd favourite! Her character will have to be given some "womanly wiles" or "batting eyelids" skill she can use to influence any male character within range!
DeleteVery nicely done...and this lady is so elegant!
ReplyDeleteThank you Phil - she may well end up as part of the French team!
DeleteVery nicely done
ReplyDeleteThank you Scotty
DeleteSorry to be missing for a bit. Nice paint job on al the miniatures but the poka dot dress really came out well. Though she seems a little stiff and worried; you should paint up an escort for her. 😀
