A Slight Variation on the 1812 Theme

Here are the first half of my latest War of 1812 unit, wearing the official "winter" uniform of blue trousers. There are quite a lot of images here as I was experimenting with the zoom on my phone again - the majority are on x 2 zoom and then there are a few at the end on x 1 where I just got physically up close to the figures - will be interesting to see which look best and what readers think....

The other nine figures should not be too far off being finished.

Above and the next six images are taken from about 18" to two feet away on the x 2 zoom

The three images below are all on x 1

To me, its hard to say which technique is better - I actually think all the images look pretty good to be honest, but do any readers have a strong preference either way?

  1. Good work on miniatures, Keith. As for me the x 2 zoom technique looks slightly better, because colours a bit brighter and shadows not that dark so I can see more details.

    1. Thanks Dmitry - I think I agree - its like with the x 2, all the figures are in focus equally, whereas with the x 1, not all three figures are 100% clear..

    2. I am with Dmitry on this but differences are really only slight.

  2. I agree with Dmitry. X2 looks a tad better to my failing eyes.

  3. Hi KIETH- getting good photos can be difficult- I ended up buying a new camera (NICON). I now have photos which show true color- and good depth of field- very pleased. Cheers. KEV.

  4. The all-blue version does look really spiffy, doesn't it?

  6. Very nice figures Keith! For me there's not much difference between the two and honestly I wouldn't known which was which if you hadn't mentioned it. Maybe time to book my annual eye check up;)

  7. Very nice job on the figures. Clever to shoot two methods, makes us look twice.
To these old eyes, both methods work.

    Still ‘uniform’ but nicely different…
All the pictures look good but the x2 are slightly better…

    All the best. Aly

    1. Thanks Lawrence - so far, no one has had a preference for the x 1 photos so I guess I will be doing x 2 from now on!

  13. Nice job! You’re back to cranking out figures at a break neck pace. 😀
I honestly don’t see any differences in the pics. Sorry.

    1. Thank you Stew and no need to apologise! The result of my poll is either x2 is better or no opinion - so I will probably go with x2 from now on. I looked again and this time, I could not see a lot in it either although I thought the last three were not 100% in focus....
