More Product of my the Painting Desk

The last of the 20mm SCW Moors are joined by some recently arrived Brigade Games Bolsheviks this evening

Three pics of a Moroccan Heavy Machine Gun and crew..

...followed by two of a mortar ....

....and four of a Republican Dispatch Rider relaxing between jobs!

Next up, I have painted the twelve Bolshevik sailors from the Brigade Games Back of Beyond range....

Command group - an appropriate flag still to be added!

Petty Officer and sailors

Two groups of sailors

All four bases together

And a final shot showing three Copplestone sailors for comparison - I think they work well together!

I am expecting to attend a Napoleonic extravaganza on Sunday, so hopefully should be " a few " images to share from that.

Until then, take care and have fun!

    1. Thanks, Scotty. They are not too far apart in style, are they?

    2. Very similar and easily mixed in same units. Gives some variety to the units

  2. Nicely done. Especially like the dispatch rider. Is it me or does that Bolshevik petty officer look a bit Hitleresque?

  5. Well, it did not take as long to paint the Brigade Games figures as it did for them to arrive. All look terrific!

  6. Great work Keith, with the dispatch rider and the sailors being rather special IMHO.

    1. Cheers Steve....I perticularly like the DR too, it's a great, nonchalant pose! Not very practical for wargaming with, but he can sit next to an HQ or something....

  9. Very nice work Keith. Armed sailors always add something a little different to the game table.

    1. Thanks Lawrence. The sailors of the "Red" navy were some of the fiercest fighters in the Bolshevik armoury, at least initially. They were less enthusiastic after the Kronstadt rebellion in 1921; mind you, the RCW was basically done and dusted by then.....

    1. Thanks Bill - they add a bit of colour and variety, plus, as mentioned, historically they were quite an important element of the Bolshevik forces. I did read somewhere recently that, whereas the soldiers from the army were pretty worn out after four years of was, the sailors of the Russian fleet had been cooped up in harbour most if not the entire war and still had plenty of fighting spirit to get out of their systems!

    1. Thanks Ben. I agree about the motorcyclists pose! I have always liked this sort of figure, even though, as noted above, it's hard to find a practical use for him - he can hardly shoot around the battlefield, side saddle!

  14. Great job Keith. There is something about the uniform of the sailors that makes them a really striking unit. Now wondering if I can shoehorn some into my WWII Soviet force?

    1. Thanks a lot, Michael. There are lots of WWII Soviet Naval Infantry figures available, I think Warlord do some and there are others too...they played quite a significant role in the fight for the Crimea

    2. Been doing a little bit of reading up having seen these, they had a fearsome reputation too it appears. Definitely worth further investigation.
