It so happens I had a birthday recently, so I shared a few gift suggestions with my two adult children, and the results were very pleasing.
From daughter Amy
From son Michael
From wife Ruth (I did NOT request these!)
Amy also supplied the cupcakes in lieu of an actual birthday cake!
Then, on Sunday, my worthy opponent in the game (I can call him that now, two days later, as the trauma has dissipated!) John presented me with this very kind gift - I have no idea how he knows when my birthday is!
Thats my post for tonight - I have already assembled one of the M5 halftracks and its near completion on the painting desk, so it should show up on a post here soon. Until then, take care and I look forward to reading any comments you are kind enough to leave below!
I love it…toy soldiers and slippers! All you need now is the smoking jacket, a brandy and a rocking chair!
ReplyDeleteOr a bloody pipe.....I know!!
DeleteVery nice, and happy birthday! My wife gets me new slippers fairly regularly too.
ReplyDeleteLol, thanksBill! To be fair, I did have slippers years ago, but haven't owned a pair for at least a decade!
DeleteSome nice gifts for you birthday. Atleast the slippers can offer some comfort when sat at the painting table
ReplyDeleteCheers Scotty...very good point!
DeleteHappy birthday! I did not know that Beevor wrote a RCW history.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jon....I think it may be his latest effort.....
DeleteHappy birthday recently!
ReplyDeleteThanks Rob 😀
DeleteSuccessful birthday haul! Cakes, halftracks, slippers and hussars!
ReplyDeleteYes indeed Ben, I forgot to mention, five of us also went out for a rather nice meal. All in all, not a bad day!
DeleteHappy Birthday to you KIETH- your family is looking after you there. I wear slippers all the time- they are so comfortable. Your daughter's cup cakes look very scrumptious. Best Wishes. KEV.
ReplyDeleteThank you Kev! The cupcakes were indeed delish!
DeleteBirthday success! I do like the PSC 1/72 stuff and you get a lot in that box. The hussars will look lovely …. eventually :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Norm and yes, the PSC kits are great. Apart from the simplicity of assembly, I particularly like the fact they supplying half a dozen crew.
DeleteVery nice - Happy birthday!
ReplyDeleteThanks Greg!
DeleteGood haul of birthday loot! Funny to see your daughter photo bombing your food picture.
ReplyDeleteThank you Dave, yes very happy with the birthday haul!
DeleteHappy Birthday Keith! Mostly a good set of presents but I'd be having a word with the current Mrs Keith about hers ;-)
ReplyDeleteYeah, she did once actually buy me ALL THREE of my Christmas suggestions, and they all had to come from overseas, but that was a LONG time ago!
DeleteBelated birthday wishes Keith!
ReplyDeleteA very nice haul and good to see you have family who are supportive of your hobby! Am pretty certain my wife will never see the reasoning behind my birthday wishlists much less actually purchase anything from them and my daughter... well, almost 11 months old - she gets a pass. (For now)
Thanks Dai, yes, now the "kids" have freedom of choice in present buying, things generally work out better than when they relied on their mother to buy for them! Start training your daughter early, so she knows what is expected of her when the time comes......!
DeleteWonderful b-day gifts :-)) !!
ReplyDeleteThanks Michal, I was happy with them!
DeleteLoving family, wargaming gifts, and cupcakes on your birthday.
ReplyDeleteYou, my internet friend, are living the life of a king. Happy birthday. 😀
Lol, I think you are possibly over stating it slightly there Stew, but no harm in accentuating the positive, as they say!
DeleteSo no to the loving family then?….😝
DeleteBelated happy Birthday Keith! A nice mix of presents, other than the slippers, which I most defniitely draw the line at!!!
ReplyDeleteHahaha, don't blame yup Steve....as I said to Mark above, it will be a pipe next.....or a bloody walking stick 😀😂
DeleteBelated Birthday wishes Keith, a fine haul Sir!
ReplyDeleteThank you kindly. Michael!
DeleteBy way of coincidence, I presented the wife with a set of birthday cupcakes (bought, not baked m'self) two weeks ago, and I had my own birthday last week (cutting down on sugars and carbs, so no cake for me!). Can't say that any of my "friends" got me any gifts. Happy Birthday!
ReplyDeleteThanks Ed...happy birthdays to both of you! The present from John was a genuine surprise!
DeleteA nice haul Keith, and happy birthday. Cupcakes do seem to be taking over from the more traditional cakes.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lawrence - given the choice, I would have a real cake every time - but you are right, cupcakes seem to fir almost every occasion at the moment!
DeleteHappy birthday! Nice selection of presents, the Beevor looks good and you can't go wrong with a Perry plastic box ! Neither my wife nor my daughter will buy me miniatures ( I just buy them myself and wrap them!) Although my daughter does get me some good history books!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thanks Iain - my wife ignored my email and bought the slippers - I reckon she is taking the piss! The kids are pretty good, they don't really get my fascination with toy soldiers but accept it's what I want and buy them, if I request it - which is as much as you can ask for, really!
DeleteBelated birthday greetings Keith…
ReplyDeleteA nice batch of presents…
The slippers will keep your feet nice and cosy while you read your book and hopefully sip a nice whiskey 😁
All the best. Aly
I am wearing them as I type my reply, Aly - no whiskey though, although it's not a bad idea, to be fair!
