More Napoleonic Chasseurs a Cheval and WWII Brits

Not too many words tonight - over the last couple of days, I have completed another two bases of the 1er Chasseurs a Cheval using Warlord Black Powder plastic figures, including the Colpack wearing elite company. Additionally, I quickly churned out a Flames of War 15mm British HMG company - 4 guns with crew, plus a company command stand.

This is the first of three pairs where one of the figures has an "at charge" arm substituted from a spare Perry one - possibly British Light Dragoon? One of the benefits of the British Army copying the French military fashions of the period is that the cut and style of uniforms is pretty similar!

The hilt of the British sabre isn't right, but I am happy to ignore that minor detail - I could probably have lopped a French hand off and added it to the extended British arm,,,,but I am too lazy for that!

And here are the "elite" troopers in their fancy headgear,

The sword arms are both original Warlord for these two.

And just a couple of pics of the 15mm WWII Brits - I did not think they warranted a separate image each!

Thats all for tonight. Work continues on the Chasseurs and next up for the WWII Brits is a 25lb field gun and crew (not sure artillery hits the table in Heroes of Normandie, but I have a box set of four of these models, so I may as well put them together and paint them up!)

Finally, this image promises the imminent arrival of some 20mm SCW reinforcements - in fact, if NZPost weren't so useless, this should have been here today.  Correros (Spanish Post Office) tracking below:

  1. Glad to see you’ve weathered that storm. You seem to have put your enforced down time to good use! If it’s any consolation I’m having to wait weeks for things to be delivered from the UK and I’m only across the channel and down a bit. Bloody frustrating.

    1. I am still waiting on UK orders placed in December. Frustrating, for sure.

    2. Cheers JBM, yes, we have been fortunate with the storm around here although even in Auckland, there are about 1500 unihabitable houses.
Glad you like my latest offerings. Based on the last three years experience, a month from Spain isn't too bad...about average, I would say. I also have an order coming from the UK buts it's plain old Royal Mail so no tracking. Rather annoyingly, although I have emailed twice to ask, the supplier hasn't answered to confirm if and when they actually sent my order....customer service ain't what it used to be, I tell ya!

    3. That's an excessively long wait Jon....but can you beat my twelve month wait for Brigade Games, I wonder ?!πŸ˜†

    4. No, I doubt I can beat your Brigade Games wait. Nor do I want to! Both UK vendors will replace the orders if they fail to show. Both orders likely caught in the Royal Mail cyber attack debacle.

    5. Yes, just bad timing if you ordered just before the Royal Mail IT hack Jon. A couple of friends have been waiting six weeks or longer for significant Perry orders....

  2. Two lovely looking units there Keith:). The wrong hilt on a sword? Well I would never have known and if I did, I doubt I would be able to tell once the figure was on the table at 'gaming distance'! Your eye sight is better than mine;).

The Royal Mail is still recovering from the hack to their IT system from a month or so ago, which prevented overseas deliveries IIRC. Add in the ongoing strikes and it just makes things worse. My regular magazine deliveries are now turning up 1-2 weeks later than they should and I know some people have missed hospital appointments due to the letters arriving after said appointment:(. In the news today a letter was delivered over a 100 years late, so maybe your deliveries might be somewhat late...

    1. Thanks Steve, in my emails to the UK supplier, I did reference the IT hack, so if they have not dispatched the figures yet, all they needed to do was tell me that was the reason.....its just a bit annoying they haven't bothered to reply!
100 years to deliver? Even Brigade Games and NZPost would struggle to be quite that bad!

    1. Cheers Matt! I did recall your warning, and took a bit of extra care with a nice sharp blade when removing the sword arms from the sprue, thanks!

  4. Good conversion, nice brushwork on the cavalry. Nice work on the MG company. Did not realize you had 15mm brits.

    1. Cheers Lawrence - yes, at the moment, I am doing a bit of each, every session - not so much done tonight though - something "shiny" has distracted me, as I shall reveal shortly!

  8. Nice looking chasseurs! If it's any solace when I get tracking to Canada the updates tell me it's hit customs (in the sending country) and then weeks later it arrives at my door. Besides confirmation receipt for the seller there's pretty much zero utility.

    1. Thanks Dave - I think we just have to accept, international freight has changed for the worse during Covid, and having "got away with it" for a couple of years, where is the motivation on the service providers to improve it again? I suspect this is the "new normal" As for tracking, being involved in the express courier industry, I do understand the problem of adding way point scans - its a lot of extra time and effort (unless done via an automated freight sorter) for no reason 99% of the time - because 99% of freight arrives at the destination with no issue and the scanning is irrelevant!

  9. Top painting as always Keith. Those chasseur centre company gens seem to be taking it all a bit seriously. They need to lighten up like their Γ©lite co. compains!
Clearly we wargamers/figure collectors are adding to the mass of 'stuff' going around the globe, flooding postal routes and creating a genuinely problematic, first world problem that affects mental health. I reckon that the now ubiquitous 'tracking' adds to the sense of slowed rates (which have no doubt occurred) as one looks for an update daily(?) only to see a package sitting in a 'clearance' centre for weeks! I am now trying to forget about something that I have ordered so that, when it arrives, it is a surprise and joy to receive. The good thing is that things *do* arrive, even if a month or more post ordering and paying.
    Regards, James

    1. Thanks James and in relation to international freight, I agree. Tracking can add to the frustration, if one sees an item take a week to get collected and consigned for sport, for example...not to mention the ubiquitous "in transit" that seems to last forever! I expect my package from the UK will turn up eventually, too πŸ˜€

    1. Thanks Dean...I think the 15mm sculpting style helps...very exaggerated detail that works well with dry brushing
