I am sure you have guessed what that means - yep - another seven of Bob Murches's rather nicely sculpted but historically inaccurate female members of the SS. Unlike the figures presented below, the real female members of the SS wore a Mausgrau (mouse grey) uniform of jacket and culottes style skirt, as well as a black, hooded cape like coat for bad weather. They had no red armbands and were mostly unarmed, even the concentration camp guards. But we want our baddies to look REALLY bad, don't we, particularly for a Pulp collection!
First up is a new figure, not painted previously, wearing a long black trench coat and sporting a monocle in the left eye, although I have under emphasised that detail - this is how SS women are supposed to look!
Now, here are a couple of images of what they actually DID look like..
Dog Handler at Ravensbruck all women's concentration camp, wearing the hooded coat.
SS Aufseherinnen (Overseers) lined up at Ravensbruck for an inspection by Himmler. The culottes skirt is quite obvious in this image.
Now, back to fantasy Nazis!
The white chevron on the right sleeve has a significance - cant remember the detail and cant be bothered checking but basically denoted you were a member of the SS before it became fashionable - so, maybe prior to 1931 or 1933 - something like that.
Most of the other figures are duplicates of previous versions wearing the sand coloured tropical uniform (which has even less basis in reality than this black European version!)
I think the next figurer is one I have not presented previously
The last figure is also a new one, not previously painted in desert attire.
She seems to be a sniper with a scope fitted to her rifle...
Next up, the first three skeletons from the recently arrived Caliver package - I think they have turned out quite well, and very easy to paint by just starting on a brown base and building up through darker yellow shades (burnt ochre type) to bone and then a light touch of pure white.
I took this rear shot (below) to give an indication of the level of detail in these figures - very impressive for this scale, in my opinion
And here is a living Japanese officer taking on two of the boney warriors!
Finally, its been a while since I posted any scenery and this trip is several weeks ago, so its time to clear it off my "to do" list!
A cool little walk - it took us AGES to get there, travelling over several kilometres of unsealed gravel roads - unfortunately, as I was doing the driving, no pics of this part of the day were taken. We have a week long trip planned in March to visit our niece and her family in Masterton, that will involve several days of bush walks en route, so assuming the weather plays ball, stand by for some more awe inspiring NZ scenic images in a few weeks!
Thank you for your attention - we have finally come to the end of this evenings presentation!
Lady Nazis and skeletons what a wonderful mix 👍 landscape in NZ is very special
ReplyDeleteLOL - thanks Matt - maybe they will end up fighting each other one day!
DeleteGreat looking ladies, quite like the skellies too!
ReplyDeleteThanks Ray...I was happy with how the skellies came out...lots more to do!
DeleteAgree, beautiful looking ladies sir!
ReplyDeleteMany thanks Michal!
DeleteKIETH,
ReplyDeleteGood to see your progress with new figures painted for your Pulp Fiction- well done. Ah- Bush Walking can be great fun. I haven't done such a long walk since forty years ago...to the 'Ruined Castle' at Katoomba with my old Boss (Earl Morris). Have fun there. Cheers. KEV.
Thanks Kev, it's nice to get out and about where there are very few other people around!
DeleteAnd they are all named Ilsa! Great work, both on the Pulp females and the skeletons.
ReplyDeleteHa, today we get up to near 55 F, we'd have such lush vegetation as on your walk over here.....if it were not for storms like Friday's, bringing three to five inches of mixed ice & snow.
Looking forward for more of your greenery ramblings, and maybe a Pulp report?
Thanks Joe...we did have a very short Storm here a couple of weekends ago, the tail end of a Pacific typhoon I think...the west coast of the South Island got the worst of it, with flooding and slips etc...hundreds of houses flooded twice in two weeks, after many had suffered the same fate a year ago.i think ther might be something to this global warming malarkey! As to games, we have a WWII planned for Friday...and I have bought the 3 X 3 folding card table.....!
DeleteI guess everywhere gets storms, bad weather. We are still waiting for palm trees to take root here. Although the winters are measurably warmer and shorter than when I was younger, snow is heavier to shovel than it was in my 20's. The 3x3 table is sure to come in handy. You're sure to have some great games on it.

DeleteSorry, ridiculous typo in first response....thanks Joe and re the table, I certainly hope so!
DeleteGreat looking lady Nazis, Keith. I agree the black with red armbands convey the sinister look. Will you be adding a Shepherd with appropriate barding too?
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot Dean! The set comes with a four legged friend wearing a "coat". I thought it was a dog but according to the description it's a pet wolf! I have yet to paint it, so may attempt German Shepherd colouring...
DeleteShades of Jason and the Argonauts there with the skeletons. And LOTR with that walk. The Shire and Lotlorien.
ReplyDeleteYes indeed - they do in fact have shields supplied along with a Warlord Hoplite transfer sheet - so we are all thinking the same way! I may do some with shields but will try to leave them agnostic, so they look ok in the Far East, S America or Egypt, depending on the scenario (see, I have lots of plans, just no actual games yet!)
DeleteA nice mix of figures and lovely scenery too. I too always think of Jason and the Argonauts when I see skeletons in combat and still marvel at that fight scene in the film.
ReplyDeleteCheers Steve, yes, that fight scene from the old 60's film is in the back of my mind too, when I consider how these might be used!
DeleteThey look great
ReplyDeleteCheers Scotty, glad you like them!
DeleteGreat work Keith, and they all look suitably sinister.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lawrence - I think the one pointing is the best pose but I like them all - the figure with the sniper rifle is in a good pose to add a dog on a lead to!
DeleteWhat a mix, a man after my own heart, the ladies look great.
ReplyDeleteNice touch on the skeletons, a real harry hausen feel to them.
Cheers
Stu
Thanks Stu - it certainly seems to be straying quite a way from "historical wargaming" at the moment, doesn't it! Glad you like the variety - lots more skeletons to come too!
DeleteThat would be an ideal doggy coat for Smaug, considering her quest for lebensraum on the sofa. Not sure the Mem would agree to it, though.
ReplyDeleteAha - so Smaug is a canine?? Ous has been encouraged to sit on the sofa next to "mum" - but he is only a small dog!
DeleteFantastic scenery ...and that's just the Nazi wimmen...
ReplyDeleteLOL - thanks for your visit and for leaving a comment!
DeleteI thought that fantasy female Germans wore latex….I mean it’s not MY particular fantasy but one should not judge. 😀
ReplyDeleteOk...that's probably technically accurate Stew...but I like to maintain the very barest modicum of respectability on this blog, and latex clad fascists is probably taking things A BIT too far! I did wonder if I had broached the bounds of propriety, posting images of ACTUAL concentration camp guards.....
DeleteThey certainly look like fiendish female fascists to me…
ReplyDeleteAlmost certainly up to no good…
Lovely scenery as always…
All the best. Aly
Thanks Aly - they are great figures to paint - Bob just needs to come up with a few more female goodies! Its a bit like acting though - they always say its more fun and more interesting to play a villain than a goody - same with painting toy soldiers!
DeletePosting pics of history is just fine, just saying. Even nasty nazi history.
ReplyDeleteLadies all look very serious and not to be taken lightly! (Especially the ones with guns!)
I am reminded of Clash of the Titans, you just need some Greek heroes to fight those skellies - very convincing!
No, no, NO....BAD DAI! I am NOT going off on some tangent and buying Ancient Greek heroes, or Sinbad etc....those skeletons are for pulp and pulp ONLY! Thanks for the comments re posting historical images, my gut feeling is most people on this type of blog would be fine with it, but you never know these days....
DeleteI didn't even think about Sinbad! LOL Great idea!
DeleteThe far too vocal minority might get offended, but I say bugger those louts. If you were perhaps voicing support for Nazi ideals, then........ yeah, perhaps not. But history whether harsh or sad or not should never be forgotten else it'll just be repeated out of ignorance if nothing else.
I'll stop ranting now. I sound like my grandfather! :)
LOL - sounds like most of us over the age of ...mmmmm....40 ish maybe, 50....not sure! Talk about history repeating, are we seeing a repeat of 1930's Europe unfolding right now.... an awful lot of the rhetoric sounds very familiar, particularly from the aggressor side
DeleteAs always beautiful excellent painting. The man is sinister looking, the ladies beautiful but in a sinister way!
ReplyDeleteThanks Mark....sinisterly beautiful is exactly the look I was going for!
