Cacadores Completed!

Right on schedule, the completed battalion of Front Rank Portuguese Cacadores roll off the production line.

The Fourth Regiment were named "Beira" and were part of the Southern Division in the Portuguese organisational structure. In the division I have based my collection on, they formed part of Packs Brigade in Silvieras division at the battle of Vittoria in June 1813.

Standard brown uniform faced in light blue with white turn backs and piping.

  1. Lovely. The Cacadores are another of my favourite Napoleonic units.

  2. Cheers Nate....I am enjoying painting these, much better tha red and white of the Brits or blue and white of the French ...or indeed the Portuguese line......as for the all white Austrians

  3. The Front Rank Portuguese Cacadores figures are really nice sculpts. Your painting is superb! Did Cacadores carry flags in the field?

    1. Thanks Jonathan ....I suspect the answer is no, they didn't carry flags. I purchased a preset 24 pack from FR and it included two standard bearers. As I wanted 12 man battalions, I had to use them. I simply checked whether the regiment was assigned to the Northern, Southern or Central recruiting area, then used the regionally appropriate flag from the ones provided with the Warlord Portuguese infantry....good enough for me although perhaps not for the purists!

    1. Thanks Aly..totally agree, the uniform is very attractive. It's a slight shame that a couple of the battalions I need to do to represent the division have similar facing..at least one of the previous ones also had light blue facings. Looking forward to the next battalion, who are all red facings and piping.

  7. Nicely done Keith. I can remember reading somewhere that two Cacadore battalions did take their standards to the field, but can't remember which ones. I did all mine without as you have done.

    1. Cheers Lawrence ...yes, I think we must have read the same pages via Google...I remember reading that too...it was a mark that they had particularly distinguished themselves on a previous battlefield I think.....
