Portuguese Reinforcements

On Friday last week, a small package arrived from the good people at Front Rank Miniatures....twenty four 28mm Portuguese Cacadores, enough for two battalions.

I am taking my time with these as it may be a while till I purchase the next batch of figures, so I don't want to get these done in a week or ten days. So far, I have more or less completed six figures, but only the following command element of the Fourth Cacadore regiment is completely finished.

    1. Thanks Ray, it's a nice looking uniform and quite simple to paint, for the Napoleonic era.

  2. Front Rank figures are my favorites for 28mm Napoleonics. The more recent Reinforcement packs are especially nice. Seeing the start of your Cacadores is a pleasant teaser for what is to come.

    Nice job!

    1. Totally agree Jonathan ...I haven't painted FR for some time but sitting there with these figures, I was reminded just how much fun they are to paint....all the detail jumps out at you.

  3. Fabulous looking Spanish - I do love their earlier shakos. Funny how they seemed to flip headgear the same time as the British.

    1. Thanks Dean ...I agree, I am never sure if the British copied the Portuguese Barratina style shako when they created the Belgic shako around 1813....it's ironic because the Portuguese started off with this shako then changed to the British style stovepipe version....mainly because the British factories were supplying the uniforms...someone made a nice profit on the deal of course!

  4. Front Rank are my default Napoleonic figure as well, and you certainly get your money's worth of lead on some of the well-fed earlier chaps. They are sturdy chaps though, and with just the right amount of detail. Great work Keith.

    1. Yes very true Lawrence ..the older style faces did have a slight tendency towards big round cheeks...but I still think on average, they are my favourite figures to paint!

  5. Very nice Keith...
I do like Front Rank miniatures...
The sky blue facings on the brown uniforms look very attractive indeed...

    All the best. Aly

    1. Thanks Aly... Your own WSS collection is testament to the excellence of the Front Rank product. The Portuguese have some nice facing and lining combinations...the other battalion to be painted has red cuffs etc.

  6. They look lovely. In just a few days too, not that slow by my reckoning! :)

    1. Cheers James ..normally, I would expect to do three or four figures from start to finish per night...an eighteen figure battalion per week is standard output, so restricting myself to a couple per night is quite relaxing!

    1. I certainly do Mark .... Once I complete the three battalions of Cacadores , I will have a full division of four brigades. Then I will just need some artillery!
